Pros:Teaches you a lesson about how it was to be a maid in the 1960's
Cons:Hard to imagine what is going on at some points.
The Bottom Line: It is a really goood book and everybody should read it.

I like to read books a lot, and I really wanted to read the book,The Help, because the movie was coming out and the critics was saying it was a good book to read.
This book takes place in Jackson,Mississippi, and it’s about a lady who wants to write about the point of view from the Help, who work for the white people who hire them. Her name is, Ms. Skeeter, who is in her 20s and wants to become a big writer in New York City. She talks to two maids at first, named Aibileen and Minny. Aibileen is a maid who has been working for quiet some time and Minny is a maid, who is way younger than Aibileen, and has lost many jobs and has 5 kids and a husband who abuses her.
I really liked that this story had good characters. Aibileen is really quiet around her white lady that she works for, but in her head she talks about how the lady that she works for doesn’t even love her child. Aibileen adores this little girl and tells her she is kind, she is smart, and she is important. Aibileen also teaches the little girl that there is no difference in their skin color, but that god just made her black. Minny, on the other hand, speaks her mind. Before Minny did something awful to the lady she was working for because she was trying to make a law for black maids to have their own bathroom because she said they have different kinds of diseases from them. Now Minny works for another lady, who actually appreciates her and Minny doesn’t know how to thank her. Ms. Skeeter has other problems besides getting caught trying to help the black women who work for her friends. Her mother is very ill with cancer and she is losing her friends more and more. Everybody tries to hold their tongues on what they are doing because they don’t want anyone to get in trouble and they are afraid of the consequences that may come.
The Help, in my opinion anyway, teaches you a lesson. This book has taught me to appreciate the things that I have in life. Two parents that love me, a roof over my head, and clothes on my back. Back then, if I was a maid, I don’t think I could survive. Working for a lady that goes and get her hair done everyday, someone who doesn’t take care of her children, cleaning up, and using the bathroom out in the garage will drive me insane. If Ms. Skeeter asked me to tell her about how it feels to work for one of her friends, I would tell it all. Even though the consequences were bad back then, from be beaten to death and even being put in jail, I think I wouldn’t even care. I would want people to know how it feels to be in my shoes and see if they want to make a change.
