Ray and Bunny live together in the city (Paris? New York?) in a tiny apartment. They are business partners: Ray, a magician; Bunny, his loyal assistant. Popcorn is a favorite snack for both.
One day, a mix-up happens. They are separated in the city. How to find each other?
Bunny finds strange faces and places. Lost, alone, scared. Then a popcorn trail and some glittering stardust leads him to the subway.
Is it? It is! There sits Ray. Lost, alone, scared, and forlorn without his best buddy.
They rejoice and miss last train home.
"But two old friends never mind walking home together."
LeBlanc Cate's illustrations of hand lettered pen and ink drawings with a touch of watercolor have an old fashioned look that suits this enigmatic tale of the heart.
A touch of whimsy and fantasy marks The Magic Rabbit, a very well done tale of friendship and love. My five-year old (now six) adored it. So did the parents. (four stars)
