biscuitfarmer's Full Review: Marissa Cloutier and Eve Adamson - The Mediterrane...
If you ask anyone in my family, I am an absolute health nut. I have been gaining a little weight however, since my wife was pregnant, you know, the sympathy weight. Well, now that the pregnancy is over, it's time to get back into shape and start back up with my healthy eating habits all over again. One of the most important things that I do is drink a lot of water. I drink probably 6-7 24 Ounce bottles of Aquafina a day. Sometimes I drink more, sometimes a little less, but that's pretty much the average. Then, I make sure that I eat fruit with every single meal, even if it's only a few grapes, it's something. The final step is that I take recipes from my diet books, one of which is the Mediterranean Diet. This book was a fairly recent purchase, just before the holidays, that I decided to get in order to ease off the pounds somewhat, while eating well.
Concept
The Mediterranean Diet pretty much focuses on the body's normal ability to burn weight. The basic idea of the book is that you can lose lots of weight, if you give your body the right fuel to start burning it off. Those that go on the low carb diets and many other diets, are eliminating the wrong things, that actually are needed by the body. So, your body is in a sense starved of what is needed to build the fire to start burning away fat. So, you are pretty much creating a self defeating process, which is why most diets fail.
The Mediterranean Diet utilizes the fresh vegetables, gains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and fresh meat in order to fully satisfy the daily requirements of your body, without going overboard.
Results
While I have been combining a multitude of different diet styles, a workout, and some other things to help increase my over weight loss, I have noticed that the diet is extremely delicious. I have had absolutely no problems sticking to the diet, because it allows me to eat great foods, that I have no problem eating. There are a wide range of recipes that I can use, between this book and my mediterranean cookbook. The variety in the food flavors, make it hard to get sick of the style of food as well.
I have been losing weight pretty quickly and have lost several inches off of my waist since I started this diet along with eliminating all beverages with calories, and my regular workout routine. Even though I'm gaining muscle mass, I'm losing more than enough fat in order to show actual weight loss.
Chapters
This is an excellent book when it comes to telling how the program works. Rather than just assuming that you know what they are talking about, they assume that you don't and really go into great detail.
The diet pretty much starts with lots of vegetables. People from the Mediterranean are so thin because they eat a lot of vegetables. In fact, the reason why Americans gain weight so fast is because we have a jaded look on the food pyramid. Our vegetable portion on our plates for meals is actually supposed to be about twice the size of our meat portion. If you just did that and drink water, you could do some serious fat reduction. However, there's a lot more to this diet that makes your meals much more enjoyable.
Beyond using a lot more vegetables, their are nuts that are added, seeds, and of course many different varieties of meats. Rather than using a lot of the high fat items to flavor the food, it is generally flavored with olive oil and the natural flavor of the vegetables, nuts, and meats, with fairly mild seasoning added. The flavor is still quite great, and the oil seems to hold in the natural flavor of the vegetables, allowing the butter to pretty much be eliminated altogether.
There are some helpful chapters in the book about fat itself and what you need to know about how it is formed, how it is removed, and what you can do in order to more closely monitor it's growth.
Overview
This is an excellent diet book that goes into great detail about how you need to use more vegetables, and more natural flavors in order to truly bring out the taste in your food and eliminate fat and calories at the same time. One of the major focuses is on adding more vegetables to your diet, which of course will add in a better health outlook, but will lessen your daily caloric intake as well.
The book is extremely well written and extremely helpful in the dieting arena, with lots of attention given to the little details, that will truly help you to lose the weight with this program.
