Id been looking forward to reading consumer advocate/whistleblower Kevin Trudeaus new book, The Weight Loss Cure They Dont Want You To Know About. Its not because Ive ever had a weight problem, but because I enjoyed his first two bestsellers, Natural Cures They Dont Want You To Know About and More Natural Cures Revealed. I love learning about nutrition and how to help my friends with their weight problems. Trudeau in his new book complains that people who have never had a weight problem are writing books about fighting obesity, claiming that they cant know how to address the problems of lifelong, miserable dieters. He himself has always been fat and miserable because of it. Hes tried every diet out there, worked along Robert Atkins, sold diet supplements that didnt work. Now hes lost over fifty pounds in four or so months and looks buff, all because he discovered a 1950s British physician whose weight loss cure protocol has been debunked in Americas medical establishment.
It doesnt look like this Brit, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, was ever fat, Kevin. The doctor discovered his protocol by observing how human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) injections affected Indian boys with, I think, a testicular disorder (no index so couldnt find out for sure). He saw them lose significant body fat and their body shape become more normal, which inspired him to try using hCG on the rare obese person with the addition of a very low calorie diet (500 calories) for six weeks. This is actually safe and satisfying because, according to Simeons, the hCG breaks up the stored fat and the calories from that will nourish us. Interesting, huh? His two-phase protocol has been turned into a four-phase protocol to better prepare todays obese person to respond to the hCG and very low calorie diet (vlcd). A good idea! Its a different world with fast food, food toxins and so on.
Trudeau has ninety references in the back of the book that show how much hCG (purified pregnant women's urine) and vlcd have been studied with articles from medical journals and books from around the world in the last sixty years. Simeons had a Lancet article in 1954, which can be read at hcgobesity.org, and a 1976 book called Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity. The book is no longer available and Kevin said it would be on his website, naturalcures.com. I couldnt find it yesterday or Dr. Simeons in its search engine. I did enjoy reading the scientific information at hcgobesity.org. This is headed by Dr. Daniel Belluscio who formulated an oral hCG that is just as effective as the injections. Hes the only doctor brave enough to have Trudeau mention him in The Weight Loss Cure, but others, including U.S. doctors, can be found by members on his website.
Both Belluscio and Simeons postulate that their decades of research and observation lead them to believe that obesity is a permanent disorder caused by a malfunctioning hypothalamus in the brain. They do not claim that hCG is a magic wand, but only that it makes weight loss easier to achieve if done exactly as the protocol requires. Kevin lists probably thirty things that will cause our hypothalamus to malfunction so, supposedly, our metabolism drops, were constantly hungry and storing more fat. Strange how he doesnt mention chronic dehydration as a cause and yet, from his list of recommended books, hes read Dr. Batmanghelidj and his research on how essential enough daily water is for good health. Unsurprisingly the first instruction in the first phase of Simeons protocol is to drink one-half to one gallon of filtered or spring water. Trudeau doesnt even mention Dr. Batmans book, Obesity, Cancer, Depression. It must be because the doctor doesnt mention the hypothalamus as a cause for obesity, not even a mention of hCG. If you havent read any of my reviews of his outstanding books, I hope youll check out the links at the bottom. The cause for obesity, in his observation, is chronic dehydration over time. The only cure is to rehydrate your body to repair the damage caused by the lack of enough water to do its many duties and to break up fat. This will take months. My friend who was grossly obese for a decade has been drinking twelve glasses of water a day, doctors orders, while adhering to a starchless diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, olive oil, salsa and a little chicken and fish. Shes lost 65 pounds in six months and feels wonderful.
The Weight Loss Cure is an interesting book, especially if you havent read his earlier books. I dont think youll learn anything new outside of what Simeons discovered about obesity and why he thinks his protocol works. Maybe it does. Dr. Belluscio in Argentina has had over 6500 clients and many more clinics are in Europe. Trudeau went to one in Germany, got enough hCG for six weeks and returned home. Im not convinced that weight loss is more than the uptake of water, colonics, change of diet and a steady walk for one hour in the morning and at night (that releases hormones to burn fat continuously).
If you are still interested in this weight loss cure protocol, you must be obese and, I think, your health at great risk so youre unable to exercise or to wait months to rehydrate yourself. You must be very dedicated to follow it. You probably will need to travel and see a doctor every day for six weeks. Kevin seems to have done the phase on his own, but hes not a doctor. Since the wealthy seem to have kept Simeons protocol secret for so many years, you probably need money for this. (No, really?) The Weight Loss Cure is 230 pages and nine chapters, followed by a long list of recommended books, websites, DVDs, then references. Kevin admits that youll lose a lot of weight by just doing the first phase of the protocol and dont need the second phase. Vegetarians cannot use hcg with the vlcd, but must follow some protein diet found at almased.com. I didnt look it up. I like my healthy vegan diet just fine.
The bottom line is that you dont need this book. While theres a lot of good advice like in his other books (eat organic, limit prescription and non-prescription drugs, drink water, limit exposure to electrical devices) and its fairly entertaining, I question too much about it. I dont think its wise to make people think obesity is a permanent disorder caused by a malfunctioning hypothalamus. If chronic dehydration is stopped in time and you keep yourself well-hydrated, it seems that obesity may be cured.
