cusnwalter's Full Review: Weight Watchers Simply Delicious: Winning Points C...
Recently I joined Weight Watchers with my mother. It has been a slow start but we decided to use the Simply Delicious Winning Points cookbook to help us.
We bought this book at a meeting, it cost us $12.00. The leader at our meeting told us that the book is not being published anymore. So if you want to but it I believe you can still find it online maybe ebay or half.com.
The book contains 245 No-Fuss Recipes that are all 8 points or less. There are several categories Appetizers, Tapas and light bites, Salads and Soups, Brunch and Lunch, Poultry, Meats, Fish and Shellfish, Vegetarian, Sides, Desserts and Baked goods. Each Category contains around 20 different recipes. They are all different and very interesting.
Here are some examples:
Roasted Vegetable Crostini
Mini Crab cakes
Chicken and Broccoli Pizza
Spicy Shrimp and Lobster Linguine
Moroccan Meatball stew
Pumpkin Spice Cake
Pasta Shells with beans, greens, and sausage
The recipes are simple explained, they all seem very easy to make, no recipe takes up more then a page. Theres something for everyone and in every points range. I have tried several recipes. I have had good and bad experiences. Last night I tried the Turkey and Cheese hamburger. It was very easy to make and very delicious. The other day I tired to make the herb Muffins, that didnt go to good. I followed all the instructions and it turned out horrible, they tasted awful. Im going to try again to make sure that I didnt mess up.
Overall I like this book, it has many different recipes that you could use for everyday or for company. There are several things I dislike though. Many of times the recipe calls for ¼ of a teaspoon, it is extremely hard to guess what ¼ of a teaspoon is and sometimes I think that leads to the food coming out with an altered taste.
Also the points are a little misleading. Yes everything is 8 points or less but thats per severing and sometimes the servings on the meals are very tiny (even smaller than the weight watcher frozen meals.) So instead of it being 5 points for that meal it winds up being 10 because the severing they suggested was too small.
