Pros: Healthy in proportional quantities
Cons: Caused kidney pain, too much protein
I first got a hold of this drink when, before a wrestling tournament (not pro wrestling) my mother bought these drinks to help give me a Boost with my performance in wrestling. I drank one and found out that, for a nutritional drink, it tasted pretty good. About twenty minutes later, I was feeling refreshed. I felt a surge of energy go through me and I liked it.
One of the down sides, I found, in this drink, is that the drink may contain a little bit too much protein. The exess protein seemed to cause stomach cramping and a bloated feeling. This may only happen in individuals who are participating in vigorous physical excercise. I have drank this drink before while not excercising and felt just fine. So, I am led to believe that one should not drink this before rough excercise. Other than this issue, the drink tastes great and has plenty of nutritional value.
Boost provides about as much nutrition as a vitamin pill, but gives you protein that vitamins don't. The protein in this drink has pro's and con's. Protein is good for you, but not in large quantities. Here are some pros and cons of protein
1. Help Build Muscle
Protein aids in building up muscles that have been stressed through excercise and other activity. It also plays an important role in the make up of our body.
Protein help repair and grow tissues. It helps to grow more skin, also, which is very important in the case that an injury occurs.
1. Too much
Consuming too much protein can cause digestive problems. It can cause many other problems as well. Too much can cause gout, liver and kidney disorders, calcium deficiencies and other serious problems. I personally have experienced some kidney problems from consuming these drinks. One night after consuming a couple, my kidneys hurt for a couple hours and I could barely walk.
2. Increase Risk
Consuming too much protein increases the risk for cancer, as well as the risk of breaking a bone in an accident. Also, many other mineral imbalances are caused by the use of too much protein. Be wise when consuming protein.
These drinks are specifically made with high protein. So, be aware that consuming these drinks regularly may increase your risk for cancer as well as cause many problems. My best advice would be to drink no more than one or two of these a week. If you do drink more, then be sure to consume more calcium, as to avoid the side effect of causing calcium deficiency.
While protein is good for you, consuming too much can cause many unwanted side effects. I would stay away from these drinks if you eat a lot of meat. They may give you a Boost, but it isn't worth the side effects that can occur. A last word of advice; Don't eat too much protein!!
