| Psychovant's Full Review: Boots & Barkley Deluxe Pet Shower |
Over the years we have tried various methods for bathing our dogs. Whether its the turn the shower on the dog, turn it off and scrub, rinse, repeat method, or the fill the tub slightly, scrub, rinse, drain method, or still the great I am now completely soaked I may as well take a shower with the dog, scrub, rinse, ha ha the dog has to stay in the shower until Im done this time method, or simply the wow, its not raining and the weathers nice lets try and fake the pups out by bathing them outside method, we have tried them all, each with its own varying degree of success or dampness (to us, not the dog).
I know that there are grooming accessories available to the casual consumer but I am unwilling to spend the price a professional groomer would spend (theyll eventually be compensated and I dont mean by a quick dampening shake of the fur) on something as simple as a bathing implement for my dog. Unwilling until I spied the Boots & Barkley line of pet products that Target is now carrying.
Target has carried this product line for some time now and we have purchased dog bowls, beds, and even a few toys for our four-legged friends over the past years but it was only recently that I noticed a larger line of grooming supplies now contained within the pet department. Of notable interest was the Boots & Barkley Deluxe Pet Shower.
The deluxe pet shower is a white, eight-foot hose that connects easily to your shower head by means of a supplied adapter (a diverter valve that only has to be installed once). After removing your existing shower head you simply wrap the Teflon tape (also supplied) around the threads, thread the adapter to your existing pipe, and then thread your shower head onto the adapter. Tighten each part down carefully and snuggly and you are all set. The hose can now be easily attached by aligning the tabs on the hose end with the notches on the valve opening. Push it down slightly, twist it, and you will feel it lock into place. Now turn your shower on and you are all set. No worry about having to grab the hose as it has a handy little on/off button so that the water doesnt remain running while you are scrubbing down your dog. And, as long as you have wrapped the threads and snugly fitted all the parts you shouldnt see any leaking at the shower head either. When you are done and have gathered yourself up from the floor after being run over by a very wet dog all you have to do is shut off the water, twist the hose counter-clockwise to unlock it, and the pull it off the adapter (make sure you drain out your hose before putting it away until the next time also).
This has been a terrific purchase for us and aside from its water saving feature (on/off switch) it has also been a huge time saver also. We used to plan a shower day for the dogs because of the time and hassle involved and now find ourselves able to simply toss a towel down on the floor, connect the hose and adjust the water temperature, plop a pup in the tub, and in about fifteen minutes there is a sweet smelling, fur-ball of a cattle dog in front of our eyes.
For anyone with smaller dogs that are just this size of too big for the kitchen sink this would be perfect. We have medium sized dogs (Australian Cattle dogs) each with their own admiration/loathing for bath time and with the shower curtain pulled partially up in case of the surprise shake this works incredibly well. It also seems to be a little bit easier for our deaf dog to deal with as I make sure to push the release and show him the water before I put it on his back and start to soak him down. For larger dogs I could see this being a bit of a struggle (unless you have a dog that adores bath time) but by struggle I mostly mean to keep yourself dry while bathing.
I have also run across many other uses for the pet shower: cleaning out the tub and shower, watering some of my larger houseplants, and even cleaning some larger items that would have normally had to go outside to be hosed off. At just under twenty-five dollars I cant recommend a better pet shower/all around attachment. The fact that it is detachable and so easy to install after getting it home is also worth another mention. Heck, were even thinking about buying another one to keep outdoors during the summer months and even to bathe our goats by way of a simple hose-to-hose adapter.
