| QueenLyssa's Full Review: Bop It Extreme by Hasbro |
We got Bop It the original for our oldest daughter three years ago and it was an instant family hit. Like Simon, the classic keep-up-with-the-beat game from my generation, Bop It challenges your speed and coordination in a fun way, although the memory demands aren't there since the point is to match the commands given by voice or cue sound. I hardly minded being stared at in public for walking around with a black and blue piece of plastic yelling at me to Bop It, Twist It, Pull It in rapid fire, it's that addicting. In fact, quite a few grown-ups watching me play it would come over to see just what it was, then give it a try. After a round or two they'd head for the toy store to get their own. Add in the multi-player element where you must periodically pass it to someone else and it's truly a fun way to spend time with the family.
I had no idea they could improve Bop It, but they did. Bop It Extreme is even wilder and more challenging. The wand has been turned into something that looks rather like a bizarre Indy car steering wheel that can be flipped and gripped as you feel the need, and you will feel the need. Now there are five commands to keep up with, the original three plus Spin It and Flick It, with Bop It placed in the center and the other four distributed in a rectangular pattern around the edges.
The pacing is still as wild and the voice quality has improved slightly. Adding even more fun are the responses you get when you finally fail to keep up with the commands. Now there's lines that are reminiscent of You Don't Know Jack like "You win! ...Not." You'll be hitting that start bop again right away, though. It's simply addictive.
The design of the game is equally impressive. It's comfortable and easy to work with for youngsters and adults alike, and built solid and sturdy to handle quite a few bang-ups and accidents. It's bright but not embarrassingly garish with the same black and blue casing as the original Bop It, and easy to stuff in a backpack or suitcase.
If you want a game that's fun for individual or family play, portable, sturdy, entertaining and challenging for both kids and adults, and highly addictive, Bop It Extreme is a must have. A simple concept that will challenge and entertain, Bop It Extreme is a surefire winner.
