My first impression of the Bosch 1587AVSP was "Wow, this thing cuts fast." Orbital motion jigsaws make quick work of curved cuts in wood, fiberglass and even metal. A small roller pushes the blade into the material with each upward stroke making the saw do the pushing, not the user. Using this jigsaw is a joy. There are no tools required to replace the blade and the allen wrench needed to change the angle of the foot has a secure holder attached to the line cord. The controls for the orbital action and air blower are positive and well placed. The tool is well balanced and the top handle design is easy even for first time users to get the hang of. The nicest feature however is the variable speed trigger. A small dial on the trigger sets the maximum speed, all that is needed then is to depress the trigger for the desired speed. This is especially nice for metal because it allows you to run the blade really slow without stalling. When you are cutting hard materials it is also nice to adjust the orbital stroke to reduce the bite of the blade or to make a nice fine cut. The smoothness of the final cut always impresses me. I was very pleased with the build quality with one exception. The "handle" for changing the blade feels cheap to me and I always feel that I could break it if I was not careful! If you do not seat the blade changing handle completely back into its socket it sometimes will come loose and bounce around, this is very annoying. Other than that the saw seems to be very tough. All the moving parts were well finished and tight and the case is very nice. I recommend using only bosch blades witch are always very sharp and seem to produce nicer cuts than others I have used, they stay sharp longer also.
