trenta200's Full Review: Bose TriPort Consumer Headphones
Before I start my review I would like you to know that I try not to focus on the features, capabilities, etc. of the object I am reviewing since it can be readily found in other reviews or in the details tab of the object. For example, if I review a printer, I assume that you know whether it has pictbridge capabilities or a card reader, since that is covered in the details tab as well as well as the website of the respective printer. I will tell you, however, if there is something wrong with the feature or if it I have not used it. If I dont mention it that means that it works without problems and does not need mentioning. This does not apply to a product with little or no reviews.
I bought these headphones to wear on my commute to school (45 minutes on an NYC Train). I chose these for a few reasons. Mostly because they are light-weight, they're comfortable, and the brand name didn't hurt. I'm very happy with it.
Light-Weight:
As I've said, this is one of the main reasons that I bought the headphones. They are very light-weight, and can be worn for several hours (I've tried it) without putting a strain on your neck or head. Good headphones if you're looking for something that will be comfortable and sound really nice. If you're looking for a pair of headphones to go jogging in, these will not work, since they don't stay completely secure with rough actions. In other words, they'll be fine if you're doing normal things, but won't stay in place in more strenuous physical activities.
Comfortable:
The foam pads on these headphones are probably the most comfortable, and of the highest quality that I've seen to date. Very soft foam inside with either leather or pleather touching your skin. I suppose the light-weight part can be factored into comfort too. The only slight drawback t this would be that after continuous use, it can get a bit hot inside the headphones. It doesn't get to the point where you need to take them off, but you'll probably feel it after an hour or so. A slight nuisance I guess. Other than that, I haven't tried on more comfortable headphones.
Stylish:
Although this is a matter of personal taste, I think the headphones look amazing. They're not very big compared to most headphones of this type, and they don't look awkwardly big when being worn. I chose the blue because I think it makes the headphones stand out that much more. Well, if you're looking at these headphones, then you probably like the styling any way.
Sound can be better for the price:
Don't get me wrong, the sound quality of these headphones are amazing. They also remove many of the outside sounds. However, for $150, there are better things on the market. For the sake of comparison, I will use the Sony MDR-V700DJ's, which are the same price as the Triports. The 700's have better sound quality, but are much bulkier and weigh much more. That is why they sound better. Therefore, if you want the best possible sound at this price range then the Triports are not for you. However, if you're willing to sacrifice some sound for much better comfort, then look no further. Bose achieved a great blend of performance and comfort in these.
The Price:
Let's face it, $150 is very expensive for a pair of headphones. I would not recommend them for someone who listens to headphones for around an hour a day, but if you really look for great sound and amazing clarity (you can hear the metronome clicking on some of the songs with these), and spend a couple of hours a day listening to music on your headphones, then these fit the bill. I would suggest using a student or faculty discount (if you happen to go or teach at a college or university) to get them cheaper. You can also try searching Epinions.com for a better deal.
On a side note, I've heard a lot of people saying that these headphones are not at all durable and break within (or so they say) several days of purchase. didn't find this to be the case. I've had these for about a month and they fell several times and wee slightly abused, but they sound, look, and fit like they're out of the box.
UPDATE: My headphones have broken after a few months of use. This is in no way a blow to their sturdiness. My friend accidentally sat on them while they were in my car and broke the bar connecting each headphone. So there you have it. If you'll regularly be sitting on your headphones, you should look elsewhere. Up until that point, they have been very durable, and the headphones still work like the day I bought them, but the plastic bar broke.
