| pete5668's Full Review: Bose Wave Radio II |
I have a Bose Wave Radio/CD in my studio apartment. I use it as my main stereo and alarm clock, because I don't have room for the big speakers that I would use with my receiver and CD player.
It was expensive. I bought it one day on my lunch hour when I was feeling rich, back in the days when I had a corporate job. Working for a big corporation made me feel richer than I actually was. I don't think I would buy it if I had the decision to make again.
THE GOOD
The sound quality is great. I have a music degree, and I studied marimba, so I always judge a system on how well it represents the unique sound of that instrument. This system really brings out the entire range of the rosewood marimba.
The alarm feature awakens you gently by gradually increasing the volume to a level that you set when you set the alarm time. Be sure to set the volume louder than you think you will need, especially if you are a heavy sleeper.
The display changes depending on the surrounding conditions. Brighter in the dark, less so in the light. Very nice.
It's small and cute. Great for an apartment or a small bedroom or bathroom.
There are inputs and outputs for a tape player or external speakers if the existing CD player and speakers aren't enough.
THE NOT-SO-GOOD
If you wake up before the preset alarm time (as I often do) and turn on the radio or CD, it automatically shuts off at the alarm's set time, which is really annoying, particularly when you are listening to the morning news. I just wish it would stay on. I'm awake. I don't need to be reminded.
The remote is so small that I lose it often. I always find it under the bed or nightstand or some other strange place.
It would be nice to be able to adjust the snooze time with the remote.
IN SUMMARY
This is expensive. If you need something small with really great sound, you might find cheaper systems. They just won't look as good or have the "wow" factor that this has.
