Pros: Quality as good as Steinway. Bosendorfer name.
Cons: Bright sound, cost ($175,000 new), light action
The Bottom Line: It is a big piano. However the sound is smaller than the piano. I would welcome it in my house with open arms but would prefer a Steinway.

| nicksavage's Full Review: Bosendorfer Model 290 Imperial |
Bosendorfer is one of the most legendary names in the market. They use Renner action and they get their soundboards from an outside source (not Bosendorfer) as well. To make the cast iron harp, they use a method called sand casting, which has been proven superior by Steinway for tone and strength. Although, it is more expensive and time consuming. The case is made from multiple pieces of wood (not the best method). Although there is no doubt it is a good piano, I would not go out and buy one new. It is six inches longer than the Steinway D, however its sound is not as big as Steinway. You could also buy two new nine foot Steinways (D) for what it would cost for one of these. I just don't see the point. If you are serious about making this kind of a commitment, I recommend finding the dealers that carry top of the line pianos and play every one. Ultimately, it will come down to the individual instrument.
