| pianoplayer's Full Review: Bosendorfer Model 290 Imperial |
I spent over a year researching my piano purchase. I have played the piano for 32 years and never owned a grand piano.
Although cost was a factor, I was willing to spend the amount necessary for the highest quality instrument.
My first experience with the Boendorfer 290 at the dealership left a lingering impression of the quality of the sound and the aesthetics.
All other instruments paled in comparison.
I really TRIED to like the Steinway D. I tried to rationalize all the arguments;More concert pianists play it.The investment factor.&tc.
However, after playing four different D models, I still could not say that I preferred it to the Bosendorfer.
I tried the Baldwin SD10 and I think that this is closer to the Steinway than I might have expected and certainly, if your budget is limited, you may want to consider the Baldwin. Not to say that the Steinway is not a wonderful instrument-it is-but not the one that I desired.
Having the Bosendorfer is both a visual and auditory delight. I would hope that more people are made aware of the Bosendorfer name and tradition that amazing craftmanship is still to be found in today's high-tech world.
The keys are responsive, the cabinet is exquisite and there is a ten year transferable warranty. Although I am writing this opinion at the beginning, of my ownership, I am confident that this instrument will live up to my expectations for years to come.
