Pros: Deep rich and full bass, crystal clear satellites, compact/inexpensive system delivers BIG on all fronts
Cons: I can't use my headphones, no hole for my headphones.
The Bottom Line: I got big, high quality sound for less than what I ever expected to pay, is anyone out there on a limited budget?

| triple_irons's Full Review: Boston Acoustics 635 Speaker System |
I enjoy my music to the extreme, and after going through three systems, I finally found what I was looking for, the Boston Acoustic 635. I'm a little lazy and this system has made my entertainment system speakers obsolete for cd's, as I'm more or less at my computer most of the time, and it's much easier for me to pop in a cd and use my Media Player, God forbid I should have to get up, walk across the room to the entertainment center, walk back again. I've got some pretty fair Bose bookshelf speakers that haven't been used for cd's in a year thanks to my Boston Acoustic's awesome digital sound reproduction.
Lets talk about power, and quality of sound. This little unit delivers on both counts with a compact 4 1/2 inch subwoofer, 7 1/2 inches tall, 6" deep, and 6" wide that really pushes the bass air out of its tiny 1" diameter blow hole, full, rich and surprisingly deep bass sound for such a small sub woofer. I've set the subwoofer on the bottom shelf of my computer station, 3 1/2 inches above my floor 15 inches away from my tower, (the magnetic shielding in effect) with my printer situated quite nicely inbetween, my total workspace being 21x31" that's compact. Just this morning I'm playing a cd while standing in front of my PC, when my shin hairs started standing on end, were bugs crawling there? After a moment of freaking out while looking at my shins, I realized the air blown from the subwoofer at three feet away, with the volume at 1/3, was the cause. Upon further investigation at the same volume, the woofer put out lit matches at a foot and a half, COOL. I rarely turn it up more than 1/3 volume, apartments suck, But even at 1/3 volume everything is loud and crystal clear. I've heard new sh*t listening to cd's I've missed on other systems, that's how sharp the clarity is for the mid range and treble that rings out from the little 3" square satellites. Suitable sound for a 10x15 ft room or less, and it sounds absolutely movie theatre quality when I pop in a dvd.
I mainly use this setup for music, (until I can update my drivers and get my GTA SA for the pc installed) and for the gaming that I do, do,(heh) this little unit is awesome, I can auger through the walls and floor with explosions and gunfire, and listen to the game characters and extraneous game sounds, (I play the GTA titles pretty much exclusively) that again, I didn't hear the first time around on different speakers.
I had no difficulties at all with installation. Left channel, right channel, input, and power cords,(all 6ft in length) were not a problem. Portability, as it were, would be packing them in a 9" square cardboard box, could be convenient during a move, or in a bigger box with your pc, wrap the cords up nice and tight, it's not like there's a handle that can make pc speakers portable that I've heard of. There's a main volume control on one of the satellites, and also a volume control on the sub woofer. That coupled with my media player graphic EQ, gets me just the sound I want. Running a Codec VIA sound card, had no compatability problems.
And now to affordability. I've seen these right now, new, (tho I'm unsure if they're still being manufactured,as they were originally introduced in '99) for $50.00, might I suggest Amazon or better still, Ebay. I got mine at the local pawn shop used for $35.00,(unfortunately the satellite speaker mountings were missing) I couldn't believe my luck when I saw them, I knew Boston was a fairly well known brand name, and brothers and sisters, I wasn't let down by my expectations. These speakers THUMP.
I've given away my other PC speaker systems,(a cheesy Sound Blaster and Creative) but this one aint goin' anywhere, at anytime. I've entertained the idea of trying to install them in my car, that's how much I like this system.
There are better systems of course, at a much steeper price. And when I can afford over a $100.00 for one,(I've got Klipsch pc speakers on my wish list) I'm still keep my Boston Acoustics for the next PC I'm currently building.
