Pros: Affordable, good gas mileage, roomy interior, responsive handling.
Cons: Bad in snow/wind, Stereo volume hard to control, high rear window.
The Bottom Line: Want a cheap car for around the city and not spend a fortune on gas? This is it. Want a workhorse car to get you through storms/snow? Look elsewhere.

For less than $10,000, the 2002 Ford Focus is a steal. It is a great little car for not a lot of money. It is however, a little car for less than $10,000 - if you are looking for a car with good gas mileage to drive around town with, you can't beat this deal. If you are looking for a car that can get you on a cross-country trip through snowstorms and high wind, you will want an upgrade.
The mid-level version of the Focus can be had for less than $8000 if you shop around. It comes with 3/4 fold-down rear seats, AC, and CD player. The handling is responsive and the car is overall very peppy. The front seats have plenty of room, the rear seats are more than adequate. The controls are in good locations and it is a pretty quiet car for the money.
On the down side, it is also a light car, so high winds cause it to move around a lot. It is also not so great in the snow - slipping and sliding around in only a inch or two. The stereo volume is also a bit maddening - you can never seem to get it to the right level - it is always to loud or too quiet. These are the biggest issues I have with the car. Also, if you are short, it might take some time to adjust to the higher rear window....
All in all, I do recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a good cheap car. We have put $20,000 miles on it in less than a year and haven't had any troubles! Definitely shop around though - we got our car for $8000 (from a dealer) with all the features we wanted, but most dealers were selling the same thing for $10,000. Or selling 2001 for $8000 (the 2001 has an older and less reliable engine design). So take the time and find your price!
