When spring arrives, thoughts turn to many things. Easter bunnies, Marshmallow Peeps, baseball, ahh, even romance.

Spring is also the time of Passover, the holiday that celebrates Moses and his leading those who were Jewish out of Egypt. There are many foods to commemorate this holiday, one of the most important, Matzo, or unleavened bread...But, as is custom for me, my mind turns to sweets.

When I spot the first displays of Passover foods on the market shelves there are a few things I just have to pick up in advance of the holiday, one of them is a candy, well, actually there are a few candies I can't resist, but this review is only about one of them.

Jellied fruit slices. Almost all the major Kosher food companies make them and, to tell you the truth, they all taste and look about the same, the only difference I have found is the price. Just today I bought a box for $2.99 and on the shelf above were two other brands that were selling for $3.99 and $4.19. Granted they were in prettier boxes and looked more ready for gift giving, but as far as I'm concerned, it's what's inside that counts.

Boston Fruit Slices are certified Kosher and Kosher for Passover...That's the most important thing to all observers of the holiday. They are made with specially approved Passover ingredients and under the supervision of a Rabbi. For over 50 years this company has preserved the traditions of Passover and always pride themselves about the quality candy they provide to their customers to enable a tasty holiday as well one in keeping with the important religious laws that accompany Passover's observation.

This confectionery candy has always been a favorite of mine...Well, for someone like me who loves Chuckles or sweet fruity treats, it's no wonder these fruit flavored slices appeal to me, not only for taste but eye appeal. I guess you could almost call these Jewish Chuckles since they really are quite a similar kind of candy.

Each 8 ounce box comes with four flavors; Cherry-red slice, Lemon-yellow slice, Lime-green slice and Orange-orange slice. You get four pieces of each sugary fruit flavored slice. What makes them so special is the little white Marshmallow stripe that runs across the top, giving a little extra chewiness when you bite into each piece. One slice is about 3 inches by 2 and less than half an inch thick and covered with sugar. I don't even have a favorite flavor, which is odd since with other candies that are fruity it's usually cherry that I like the best and save that flavor for last, well, that's what I do, I save my favorites for last. But not these, I seem to enjoy them all equally since the flavor of each fruit really come through.

There are 3 slices for each serving size, which contains 160 calories so I try to stick to that portion or less. . There is no fat or cholesterol only 15 mg of sodium but the carb count is really high, 39 grams...not for anyone on low carbohydrate diets I would say.

I guess it's a good thing that these little sugar fruit slices are something I eat only once a year but when I do, I certainly do enjoy this great tasting seasonal treat.
