Last spring I was invited to the baby shower for one of my fellow officers on the Parents Association at our school. It had been a few years since I had been to a baby shower and I was looking forward to not only the companionship of friends, but also looking at those darn cute baby clothes! Little did I know that I too would be going home with a present from the days festivities. Being one of the big winners during a game of Baby Bingo I was given the opportunity to make a prize selection from an assortment of wrapped presents. What did I find when I unwrapped my prize winning package? The Boston Warehouse Gourmet Wine and Cheese Spreaders 12687 of course!
~ A fun way to spread the cheese at your next party! ~
While I have many kitchen gadgets in my house, a set of decorative spreaders I did not have. Needless to say, I was pretty excited to go home and share my new gift with my family. But first, a trip to the grocery store was needed to make a purchase of Port Wine Cheddar cheese spread and a box of crackers. Yum!
There are a total of four spreaders that came in my box of Boston Warehouse Gourmet Wine and Cheese Spreaders 12687. This box has a clear view plastic on the front side so that a quick glance inside this box will ensure that this is the set of cheese spreaders you desire. Inside you will find a spreader with the following decorative hand painted handle:
~ wine bottle
~ fruit
~ cheese
~ grapes
With my trusty ruler in hand (No, I am not kidding!) I will tell you that each of these four spreaders is a different length. The stainless steel blade on each spreader is the same length measuring in just shy of 2 ½ inches. On each blade you will find the following: Boston Warehouse, Stainless, China. Yes, these spreaders are made in China for Boston Warehouse and are made out of stainless steel.
So, what is it about these spreaders then that make them different lengths? That would be the decorative handle on each spreader. Each of these decorative handles is hand painted, therefore
on the back of the box the care information states to Gently hand wash in warm soapy water for best results. This is exactly what I have done each time that we have used our Boston Warehouse Gourmet Wine and Cheese Spreaders 12687 and they still look as good as the day I won them. I can only assume that the hot water of a dishwasher would destroy the decorative touch of these spreaders, which would be a real shame.
Let me give you a brief description of each spreader in this set. You may want to glance up at the photo image above for a better visual.
~ wine bottle ~ This bottle of red wine is nearly 2 ½ inches in length and features a label on it stating Villa Pietra, Valpolicella, 1994.
~ fruit ~ There are three pears, two which appear to have already been sliced open, on this handle. Like the handle above, this one also measures in close to 2 ½ inches in length. While the one pear closet to the blade is solid green, the other two feature the color red as well.
~ cheese ~ This triangular shaped piece of cheese measures in at just over 2 inches. It is yellowish in color and the holes in it remind me of Swiss cheese.
~ grapes ~ These two bunches of grapes, one green and the other purple, measure in just shy of 2 ½ inches. As with the other handles of these spreaders, the detail is nicely done.
In case you are wondering, yes it is easy to grasp onto either one of four spreaders in this set. Dont let the decorative handles fool you. They have proven to be quite sturdy and easy enough for this family of four to work with. I do have to be careful with them when it comes to my ceramic flooring. Why? I am pretty darn sure that they would break if they were to take a dive onto this extremely hard flooring because Im fairly certain that they are made out of a hard plastic, or possibly even ceramic. Ive tried to look on several web sites but have not been able to find any information in regards to the material these handles are made from. All I know is I use extra care when moving them from the kitchen table to my sink. So far
so good!
One side note, while I did receive my cheese spreaders as a gift I was able to locate a price for them on line for $9.99. Plus, I have seen other cheese spreader sets by Boston Warehouse in stores before retailing in the same price range of ten dollars.
~ These spreaders spread good cheer! ~
Yes, I know that these Boston Warehouse Gourmet Wine and Cheese Spreaders 12687 are merely just knives (spreaders), but they really do bring good cheer around this household. Mind you, it doesnt take much to impress this household! But when this family of four decides to sit around on a Friday night and nibble on some cheese and crackers together, I admit that it is fun to bring out something decorative and fun. These cheese spreaders fit the bill!
While I received mine as a gift I would not hesitate in purchasing this set of Boston Warehouse Gourmet Wine and Cheese Spreaders 12687 as a gift. Honestly, I wish that I had thought of this a week ago when I went over to a friends home for a luncheon, in which she hosted the entire meal for eight women. Darn! I think that this would also make a great Welcome to the Neighborhood gift included with a bottle of wine. Plus, think of the great items you could include with these spreaders in a gift basket with a cheese and wine theme. Remember those Holidays that are rapidly approaching? You may want to make a mental note to remember these cheese spreaders! I know that I am.
