For the Unpleasant Job of Washing Baby Bottles, I Use a Munchkin Bottle Brush
Written: May 18 '07
Pros:Sturdy handle with grip, comes with nipple brush, drainage, sponge and bristle portions
Cons:Sponge wears down after 1-2 months
The Bottom Line: This is a good brush, nicely designed. Only lasts about two months, but I use many times a day, and it gets the job done.
One of the baby items I received at my baby shower were bottle brushes. I had not registered for any but it was fortunate that I received them.
We have the #1 selling bottle and nipple brush because of our unique design and quality. Our bottle brush has soft bristles and a strong sponge tip for scrubbing hard-to-clean places. And the nipple brush is conveniently stored in the handle so you never have to look far for your favorite little brush.
The Munchkin Bottle Brush
This brush comes in several colors, including pink, green, yellow and blue. Parts of the brush and the bristles are white. The top of the brush has a hole in the top, and screws off to reveal a nipple brush. The handle has little bumps on it to prevent slipping.
This item is easy to find, as I have purchased additional brushes. I have seen them at Babies R Us and department stores like Walmart and Target. The brush runs about $4.00.
My Thoughts & Experiences
I hate washing baby bottles. It is just something I don't enjoy doing, probably because I wash up to a dozen bottles a day. It's no fun! So the right bottle brush is important!
This brush has come in handy on a daily basis. I use it multiple times a day to wash bottles, as well as inserts (for Dr. Browns bottles), tops, and nipples.
The design of this brush is pretty good. The handle is large and contoured, with non-slip bumps on it. Some of the bottles I wash have small necks and I have to hang on to the brush to stuff the end in.
The brush and sponge does a good job of cleaning bottles. The sponge gets into the bottom corners of the bottles, and the bristles get into the underside of the neck of the bottles.
I never really used the nipple brush much, although it is convenient. The handle of the brush and the top of the nipple brush have holes in them to allow water to drain and to prevent moisture from getting trapped. You just have to be careful to tilt the brush or hang it so that water drains properly.
I think this is a great bottle, although I have two complaints:
- When I pull out the brush, suds tend to spray off the bristles. I guess there is really no way to prevent this.
- The sponge does not last particularly long. I use this brush with the 4oz size Dr. Browns bottles, which require a little effort to fit the brush into the bottle. Not only do I use it for the bottles, but I stuff the brush into the inserts that go into the Dr. Browns bottles if you arent familiar with them, there is a tube going up the center of the bottle with a wide top. After one month, the sponge portion was beginning to deteriorate. After two months, I am about ready to toss the brush. The sponge was just losing too much of its strength and doesnt get into the bottom corners of the bottles like it used to. It is also starting to lose pieces behind with cleanings.
Overall
This seems to be a pretty good quality bottle brush. It does wear out after a month or two, so I cant give it 5 stars. I would say it is above average but not perfect 4 stars. I have several of these I received as gifts, and Ill probably continue to purchase after I wear them out. I would also likely purchase these for baby showers.
