Hmmmm...Yes, you're probably right, quasar. I might have been a little generous in comparing this restaurant with Boulevard. I may reconsider that sort of endorsement. The food is indeed very good though.
cheers,
Kate

Same caliber as Helmand? (Reply to this comment)

I've never been to the Helmand in SF, just the one in Cambridge, but it's not even close to as fancy or as expensive as the restaurant you're reviewing here. Good food though.

Yep, you should definitely make sure to eat here at least once, Tom. I'm sure you'd find it superb. Then you can come back and tell us your opinion on the place!

Isn't it though? It'd been two years since we'd been there too. I much prefer to dine there at least annually! Thanks for commmenting, Deborah.

Must Try.... (Reply to this comment)

The concierge at the Mandarin Oriental could not say enough good things about this place. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to try it. I will definitely make this a priority on my next visit to the Bay City. Thanks, Tom Barnes

I haven't been here in two years. As your very nice review reflects...it is just an excellent restaurant by any standard!

Re: cheese service? (Reply to this comment)
by lyagushka, in Restaurants & Gourmet
Ya know, I've never been to Zuni. I really must get there sometime. Yes the cheeses are now served individually, which is just fine by me. There was a choice of seven different cheeses, two of which were blue/green, four French, one Italian and two domestic, three cow's milk, three goat's cheese and one sheep's milk. Apples, grapes and almonds could be ordered to accompany one or more of the cheeses for an extra charge. One cheese was enough for me though!
cheers,
Kate

Re: Why am i picturing a romantic dinner (Reply to this comment)
by lyagushka, in Restaurants & Gourmet
Nope, hubby's eyes are brown. And previous familiarity with the restaurant made it easier to remember the details, as did my take home copy of the cheese list, on the back of which I subsequently jotted down my notes.
Dinner for two (foodies) can hardly help but be romantic at this place.
cheers,

cheese service? (Reply to this comment)
by uraniumorchids
Excellent review of one of my favorite SF restaurants (it used to be #1, but recently was edged out by Zuni). In the past, Boulevard did a 3-tiered cheese plate, on a plate stand, that also featured cmplimentary fruits -- did a by-the-cheese list replace that? As for reservations, I agree they are required, and have found that using Open Table is a great way to make same-day reservations at Boulevard, for lunch or dinner.

but a notebook in hand to keep notes.
"No dear, I'm not writing about my artichoke. I'm commenting how blue your eyes look this evening so I'll never forget"
Nice review

Well, that does sound good, Cal. But since the menu changes frequently, it wasn't among our choices during this last visit. I might've picked it if it had been.

Well...since it's right in downtown San Francisco, I couldn't really call it "suburb." ;) Sorry, just couldn't resist! It is superb and well worth the splurge once in a while. Thanks for commenting Barbara.

Yes, it is a hefty chunk of change and certainly out of reach for us on anything other than a once-per-year basis. Glad you liked the review. Thanks for leaving a comment here, Annie.

That is a lot of money for one meal. I suppose to the stars it's change though. We do not drink so your price list looks do able. We also usually eat out like you. Except ours comes as Christmas presents (gift cards from restaurants) from the family. Enjoyed reading your review.
Best wishes,
Ac
