i can only speak about the bakery part of the bouley bakery, where i've had lovely, perfect goat cheese omelettes with fine herbs and a small mesclun salad on the side. their caffe lattes are very good, served in proper white cups and saucers. i also adore their shortbread cookies, not expensive at all, and wrapped in sweet little clear cellophane packages and tied with a red ribbon.
i will say that i most enjoy walking through the dining room of the restaurant proper to use the bathroom, which is pristine and which has great lighting and individual linens for drying your hands. the waitstaff can't stand that the bakery patrons are allowed to use the restaurant bathroom, but what can they do?
the only negative thing i can offer about bouley bakery is their staff needs some help in managing the lunch crowd and the counter crowd. it takes forever to be served and get one's check.
bouley bakery is nice for taking your mom for a salad, soup or sandwich or pastry if you happen to be downtown. this place is not for a tourist without a culinary clue - they should instead seek the double arches further over, on broadway.
