Pros: Build Quality, High Speed Motor, 3-stage shaving, travel case, good battery life
Cons: Broader two-foil head makes it harder to reach certain areas like under nose.
I purchased the Braun 5775 Flex II to supplement an older model 150. I prefer standard shavers to rotary shavers so I cannot offer comparison between the two systems. However, I would like to share my impression of this particular unit with you.
Braun still makes their electric shavers in Germany, and it shows! The quality of the unit is as solid as you would expect from German products and workmanship is impeccable. When I received it I took the time to read through the very short and simple instructions. This is my first shaver that can be rinsed under water so I wanted to make sure to read the maintenance section.
After the initial 4-hour charge I put the shaver to work on my moderately heavy beard growth (I have blond hair and know that darker-haired men usually have a little tougher stubbles to deal with). The Ultra speed motor sounded confident and the 3-stage shaving system combined with the pivoting head of 2 foils did a fine job and left me with a smoothly shaved face.
The 3 stages (per Braun website) are:
The first foil thoroughly shaves off short hairs and stubble.
The integrated cutter lifts the long, close-lying, or curled hairs and trims them.
The second foil then shaves them off cleanly while the flexible pivoting head adapts to every contour of your face.
Worked very well. The hard-shell travel case that came with the shaver included the usual cleaning brush. You have the choice to either rinse the head under hot water or use the brush to clean the cutter.
A fully charged battery will last me for about 7-10 shavings and the unit is back in business after one hour on the plug.
Other niceties are two LED lights (one showing the charging status, the other one is a low-battery warning) and a pop-up longhair trimmer.
Since the two-foil head is naturally wider than a single-foil like the 150, it is a little harder to reach places like right under the nose, but it is still a close shave and you get a full 2-year warranty plus a 30-day money-back guarantee from Braun, thats industry leading.
I find this to be a great shaver for the price, judged on the quality and the results. It can be had with an automatic cleaning/charging system on model 5790, but that adds about $40 to the price. Good ergonomics and looks compliment this great shaver.
