| mkirkwag's Full Review: Braun MR 430 HC MultiQuick Single-Speed Handheld B... |
I groaned when my husband gave this to me. I remembered other stick blenders with changeable blades. Big hassle. In place of doing one thing well, they did several poorly. All I wanted was a simple, cheap, stick blender. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong.
He found one with the chopper, whisk, beaker with lid, and wall mount, but I keep it in the cupboard. I thought that would be a bad sign, too. In fact, it's the work of a second to pull it out a slip on the appropriate tool.
The top section of the handle is the motor. The bottom section twist off easily, then twists as easily onto the lid of a small chopper/processor, or the whisk attachment. The whisk head looks like it will take more attachments, but I haven't seen any.
In terms of power, the chopper out-performs my irredeemably noisy Cuisinart Mini-Food Processor, and without the obnoxious noise to boot. I use it most simply to chop onion, garlic and nuts. Warning: it's *fast*. Pay attention, or you'll have mush.
The whisk is as fast and strong as any whisk I've used, and is great for things like whipping up eggs--not a task for the meek or battery-operated.
The stick blender itself I ended up using, much to my surprise, for my smoothies. I put in things like bananas and frozen fruit, and didn't expect it to be able to handle the chopping. Surprise! Instead of the blender, now I pull out the included beaker, with measurements marked (great feature!), mix my drink, twist of the end, give it a quick wash, and put it all away.
I've even blended things on the stove with it--to puree part of the soup, for example, rather than putting it in the blender and getting the dreaded hot-liquid-exploding-out-the-top phenomenon. I imagine you should use a certain amount of caution--the housing *is* plastic, after all--but I've had no problems.
It cleans easily--none of those nasty little hidden spaces.
We did add one feature ourselves. We attached a rubber band to the cord near the plug. When we put away, the rubber band is always there, and we fold up the cord and band it to the motor end. No mess.
