Pros: Cool Disney characters; encourages kids to brush longer.
Cons: More expensive in price than manual brushes; requires batteries.
It's probably no secret by now that my 3 year old son, Tristan, is a huge Buzz Lightyear fan and has been for some time now. So when I was purchasing some Crest Spinbrushes for my older children's Christmas stockings late last year, I ran across this Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush, Buzz Lightyear and knew exactly who I would have get this for! Even though it was a bit more expensive in price than the Crest toothbrushes I bought that day, however, I just couldn't resist! For Braun Oral-B is recommended by more dentists worldwide than any other brand of power toothbrush, so I knew I'd get my money's worth from my investment. And now that Tristan has his very own Buzz Lightyear toothbrush, he's usually more than ready for teeth brushing sessions as required. Read on to find out more about this highly recommended choice.
~~~The Battery Operated Toothbrush~~~
Recommended for children ages 3 years and up, this Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush comes in two different designs: Buzz Lightyear for boys and the Princess print for girls. I'm assuming the Princess toothbrush is basically the same as the Buzz Lightyear one, only the colors of the easy to grip handle are different (one is light blue and pink while the other is a darker blue and green). According to product advertising, this battery operated toothbrush with replaceable brush head is designed to help children brush better. The smaller children's brush head is designed to clean chewing surfaces and helps to prevent tooth decay. Featuring extra soft rounded bristles containing a blue indicator line that tells you when the detachable head needs replacing, this pediatric dental care product comes with a 2 year warranty. Measuring about 8 inches tall, this durable toothbrush requires two "AA" batteries for use, which are very simple to install. Definitely designed for a right handed child, however, (I notice these things since I'm a lefty myself!) with the four red patterned gripper sections in descending sizes) on the front, all it takes is a firm push of the largest button to activate (and then to turn back "off") the bristles. But best of all, Buzz Lightyear himself is pictured on the red replacement head of the boys' design of this Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush.
~~~Price & Availability~~~
Each Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush Buzz Lightyear or Princess may be purchased in the dental care aisle of your favorite store, or online at www.drugstore.com for a whopping $12.99. I paid much less for this toothbrush at my local Wal-Mart late last year (around $7.96) as I probably would have passed it by otherwise if I had to pay $13 for it! But be forewarned that the replacement heads aren't cheap ($7.99 for one at www.drugstore.com), yet they will fit all Braun power operated toothbrushes and not just these two. Containing extra soft bristles that are created to be gentle on a child's tender gums and teeth, this character replacement head features a raised row of blue bristles designed for cleaning chewing surfaces. The blue indicator bristles monitor brushing performance and brush head replacement. Tristan is still using the original brush head that came with his Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush, although the bristles are beginning to look a bit worn and tattered now.
There for awhile, Tristan went through a phase where he absolutely hated to have his teeth brushed! So it was a daily battle getting him to cooperate. But since he found this Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush, Buzz Lightyear in his stocking on Christmas morning, he's changed his tune for the good (for the most part, that is!). I'll first let him brush his own teeth to the best of a 3 year old's ability, and then I finish the job myself, which works out rather well. For just a few months ago, Tristan had his first dental checkup ever, and he walked away cavity and problem free! So something must be working :-) When not in use, this toothbrush easily rests upright on the oval shaped base, which contains the batteries. The batteries themselves have been replaced a few times in almost six months, yet the replacement head will definitely be ready for the trash very soon. The blue indicator line is still there (and slightly raised as it was new), but the white bristles around the edges are becoming slightly frayed with long term use. So I can easily say that our experience with this Braun Oral-B Kids Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush has been a positive one so far.
Even though most children aren't truly capable of brushing their own teeth independently until around age 7 or 8, this Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush is a great choice when teaching younger ones the importance of daily brushing (with adult supervision and assistance). Most will absolutely love the Disney characters (be it Buzz Lightyear or a Disney Princess), and the vibrating bristles will help keep your child's teeth and gums cleaner than ever. The brushing area is quite small when compared to regular battery operated toothbrushes, yet it cleans tooth surfaces gently yet effectively. Of course both the replacement heads and the batteries cost substantially more than just buying a new manual model, but if this special toothbrush featuring Tristan's favorite cartoon character (Buzz Lightyear, naturally!) encourages him to brush more often without resistance, then I'm all for it!! So in conclusion, we are very happy with this Braun Oral-B Disney Kids Battery Toothbrush, which is still going strong almost 6 months after it was purchased. Good luck and happy brushing :-)
