I admit, at first I was very skeptical about buying an electric toothbrush. I really couldn’t see the point to spending $70, when you could just buy a new regular toothbrush for $2. After some convincing however, my mom managed to talk me into it.
The Braun Ultra Plaque Remover electric toothbrush is very easy to use. You just put your toothpaste on the brush, put the toothbrush in your mouth, and hit the button. Instantly the brush starts rotating and cleaning your teeth. To turn the brush off all you have to do is hit the button again.
Luckily for me, the toothbrush comes with two toothbrushes for the price of one. I bought it with my husband and thought we would have to share one toothbrush and switch the heads. It also comes with a nice plastic travel case, which comes in very handy for trips. I do wish that two travel cases were included so that each of the brushes would have a case. I like that the toothbrushes are rechargeable. I recharge mine for about a half hour ever other day and it works perfectly.
As for how the toothbrush works cleaning your teeth, I was pleasantly surprised. It does not hurt my teeth, and I find it extremely easy to use. For once, I feel like I'm actually getting my teeth really clean when I brush. The electric toothbrush has a small round brush that rotates in a circular manner very rapidly to get your teeth sparkling clean. Different than a regular toothbrush, the brush head rotates in a circular manner as you are moving the brush in your hand as well. While brushing your teeth the toothbrush lets you know when it's time to finish. After about three minutes of continuous brushing without turning off the toothbrush, the head rotates back & forth. This lets you know you've brushed for a long enough time. The brush is also small enough to fit behind your back teeth, which is great for me because this is a problem area.
There are only a few things that I do not like about the toothbrush. I am the type of tooth brusher who likes to brush, spit, and then continue brushing. If you take the toothbrush out of your mouth while it's running, toothpaste goes everywhere and makes a big mess. Problem is that the automatic timer resets every time you turn the brush off. This means when I turn the brush off to spit then back on to continue brushing, the time starts all over again. I also find that the toothbrush is somewhat messy. I end up having to clean off the toothbrush almost daily. Besides that it is expensive, $70 is a lot to pay for a toothbrush. As I said earlier, the heads for the toothbrush are also very pricey.
My dental hygienist thought it was ok that I purchased the electric toothbrush, but also wanted me to continue using a regular toothbrush. She never told me directly, but it sounded like she did not like electric toothbrushes very much. My mom's hygienist on the other hand, highly recommended this toothbrush saying that, "you can't go wrong."
I recommend using this toothbrush, as I feel it does a better job cleaning your teeth than a standard toothbrush.
