Pros: It may clear up your congestion.
Cons: Does not work for some people.
Being the conscientious person I am, I decided to be proactive and get a flu shot this year. The one year I neglected to do so I became very very sick. As I work in a medical center with some people who are terminal, I certainly don't want to expose others to any germs. In spite of my best efforts, I did contract a flu bug, it started out with a very sore, scratchy throat, a lot of congestion, fever and chills. I had heard of the Breathe Right strips, but had never tried them. I saw a small packet at a convenience store ( 2 strips for $1.69) and decided this would be a good way to see if they were truly effective, and would work for me.
The manufacturers state that there are Vicks Mentholated Vapors in every strip. That sounded like just what I needed!
Other features touted by the manufacturers of this product:
~*~Relieves Nasal Congestion
What are they?:
There are small pieces (like a bandaid) that have adhesive. You apply to your nose. They come in two sizes: small/medium (for most people), or large for those with larger noses. There are special Breathe Right Strips available for children, and also those to assist in breathing (for those without colds). To enjoy the benefits of the vapors, scratch the nasal strip.
When should you purchase:
They are for those with colds, congestion and stuffiness, and/or for those with snoring problems (or spouses/significant others with snoring problems). They can be used during the day or to assist with your sleeping at night.
How many times can you use?:
You can just use once per the manufacturer. Of course they suggest this so you will buy more. You can try to use more than once (in my opinion), but I would guess the vapors would dissipate over time. The vapors just last for an hour which is not of much benefit in my opinion.
How to remove:
They suggest you remove in the shower or while you are washing your face. Loosen each of the ends and gently remove.
Where to buy:
If you think this product may be for you, you can purchase at your local drugstore, grocery store, convenience store, or if you wish to save time, money, hassle, purchase online!
For external use only. Do not use over sores, sunburned or irritated skin. Disposable, use each strip only once. Do not use for more than 12 hours per day. If rash or skin irritation occurs, discontinue use. Not for children under 5 years of age. Packaging of this product contains natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions.
Well, this section will be very brief. I purchased the small/medium size as my nose is rather small (thanks to an excellent doctor who improved my sinus/breathing problems, and my profile at the same time!). I carefully read the instructions. I am middle aged and have combination skin. Of course my t-zone is oily, and that includes my nose, so I washed and dried my face before attempting to apply the strip. I applied it as they showed on the packaging, but the strip absolutely would not stick on my nose. I did scratch the strip to release the vapors, and therefore could tell that it would be helpful if it stuck on my nose.
Final thoughts and recommendations:
If you are an adult with a cold/congestion/breathing problems or snore, and do not have oily skin, I do recommend you give these a try. If you have kids 5 or over with a cold/breathing problems, you may want to try the strips to alleviate their symptoms. However, these were a waste of time and money for me (okay, just $1.69) as my skin is oily. The fact that the vapors just last an hour doesn't lead me to think they are cost effective regardless. Based on my experience, I am giving them 1 star. They helped me not one iota. In lieu of this product I suggest:
Therapatch Vapor Chest
Theraflu Vapor Stick
Both products are much more effective for congestion, and suppressing your cough, and are longer lasting.
