Pros: Its a Breitling! Seriously, this is a durable stylish rugged watch.
Cons: The second hand is in a minidial instead of the traditional second hand spot.
In 1894 a Swiss company called Breitling started to make watches. Years later, in the age of airplanes, Breitling garnered a reputation for making some of the finest most precise time pieces for pilots. Breitling is now famous for making very accurate (Chromometer Certified on most every model, including this one) and very rugged looking and stylish looking watches. The Chrono Colt is one of their most affordable watches, and has the look and feel that makes the Breitling name so sought after.
Appearance and Wow Factor The Chrono Colt is a serious looking watch, with a no nonsense stainless steel band, stainless steel body and stainless steel bezel. It is heavy in your hand. Although this is a smaller Breitling, it looks good. It has the beauty and the threat of the aircrafts its predecessors were in. The Chrono Colt is not a pretty, dressy watch, it looks ready for precise timekeeping under any conditions. It looks like a fighter pilot watch! I have gotten numerous compliments when wearing this watch, and a number of people know the Breitling name. Is that a Breitling? Oh that's nice!. The detail in the watch is very nice too. The trademark anchor, B and wings appear above the company name. Two of the chronograph hands have respectivley a B and an anchor on the inner end of them. This watch has no numbers, just a luminescent triangle at 12, and luminescent hash marks at the other hour positions. The outer uni directional bezel, also has a luminescent spot on it. My particular watch has a white face with blue minidials, it is also available in variations, blue with white minidials and black with white minidials. Some different straps are available with it as well, but I think the Fighter Pilot strap is the best match for this, it would look awkward with a leather strap.
Time The Chrono Colt tells time in analog. The second hand is not where you would expect it to be though. What appears to be the third dial for the Chronograph is actually the second hand. The second hand is the second hand for the Chrono graph function.
Chronograph Which brings me to the main function of this watch. It is a chronograph, and it is accurate to a 1/10th of a second. The upper left dial, keeps track of the hours, another hand that almost hides behind what you thought was the second hand keeps track of the minutes, and the upper right dial keeps track of the 1/10th seconds. Chronograph function is by two buttons on the right hand side of the watch. It also has split time functions.
Date The watch has a date window between 4 and 5 o'clock. You will have to reset the date for any first of the month after a month with only 30 days.
Tachymetre This watch has a tachymetre function on the inner bezel. If you know how to use this, or what this is for, you are a lot smarter than I am. I think it has something to do with how fast you are going in your jet or how soon you will get to a certain point, I'm just not sure.
Water Resistance The Chrono Colt may be used for diving, but not deep sea diving. It is water resistant down to 330 feet.
Durability / Wearability This watch is very comfortable to wear, and if you do something that hurts this watch, I hope that you get well soon, because you must have been in a very serious accident.
When to Wear I don't think of this as a formal watch, it has too much of a utiliterian look about it. It's an outstanding watch for play or the gym though, because its very rugged, while still looking really sharp.
