I have spent the last ten years searching for a toaster that didn't under-toast the first slice and burn the next. I tried all the usual brands for sale in your basic stores and hated every single one. I decided to go all out and buy top of the line. I researched available brands and all the features for the Breville sounded great, so I gave it a try. Even though this machine is horribly expensive, I have not regretted it. Besides the fabulous features and super cool lights, every single slice of toast, bagel, and frozen waffle has come out perfect.

There are many nice features that enhance this toaster. The biggest factor is a special thermostat that monitors the heat. It obviously does a great job. It has a Lift and Look button that will make the slice rise for a quick look and lowers it down again without interrupting the toasting cycle. This is helpful for those moments when you become concerned that it might be over toasting. If it is, you can press the Cancel button to end the toasting cycle.
On the other side of toasting woes, if the toast comes up, press the A Bit More button to send the toast back down for slightly more toasting. This was one of the frustrating problems with my old toasters. You press the handle down on other toasters and they won't stay down because the heating elements have reached their top heat, and the toaster has to cool down a little before it will toast again.
There is a Bagel button that turns the heating elements on only one side so that the cut side of the bagel is toasted, but not the uncut side.
I also love the beep it gives me when the toast pops up, and even the electrical plug is nifty. It is designed with a finger hole to make pulling it out of tight outlets safer and easier.
If you don't mind the price, and you have been as frustrated by standard toasters, as I have, the Breville line if for you.
