If ever you want an example of how valuable a site like Epinions can be, just read the reviews for the Breville Ikon CT75Xl 4-slice toaster. Had I read these reviews prior to purchasing this toaster I most certainly would not have purchased it, more so as my experiences were not unlike previous reviews.

Why did I buy this toaster? It seemed to be a perfect replacement and maybe even an upgrade for my former Cuisinart CPT-180. In particular it had some good design ideas that the Cuisinart was lacking. For example it has two really long opening as opposed to four smaller one’s. This means you can fit in oversize bakery bread and whatever else with greater ease and efficiency. I was also very impressed with the graphic display that shows your toaster setting and updates the toasting process so you can tell exactly when your toast will be ready. It even has an innovative plug with a finger hole to make it easier to get in and out of the wall.
Feature wise it has all the same bagel and defrost setting as the Cuisinart has along with a “cancel” button....long story short from a features and design perspective the Unit get’s a 10. Unfortunately when it comes to performance that is another story.
As has been already noted by many; you really cannot turn this toaster past 3 less everything get burned. How you can have 6 settings beyond 3 is beyond me. Further setting it on 2 is almost too light so as much as the Toaster offers 9 settings in total you really are working on a fine line between setting 2 being too little and setting 4 being too much thus making the remaining 7 settings basically redundant.
My other serious complaint is toast time. The Breville takes nearly twice as long to toast the same bread as the Cuisinart does. Slow toasting is not what one expects in a $ 100 toaster. There is also the issue of smaller, lighter items can actually be ejected right out of the toaster onto the counter top as well.
Bottom line is that while this is a good looking toaster, it fails miserably on performance. For the same price you can buy the Cuisinart CPT-180 and have a vastly superior toaster. Give this one a pass.
