Re: Good review (Reply to this comment)

Hi there!
I agree - it is a great movie for kids, but also for us older kids :-D I think about a third of all movie trailers these days seem to be majorly misleading, but in a way this was among the most misleading. Fortunately as it was good movie anyway it didn't really matter!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I hadn't read the book and frankly was also misled by the trailers. I think Hollywood is afraid of letting their softer side show. I think this is an excellent movie for children (about 8-16 yrs), especially those who have to face the issues that Jesse faced. I'm 62 yrs old (young)and it made me cry. Good job on the review

Well, they've most definitely set it in modern times, so if that would bother you it'd probably be best to give it a miss.
I must get hold of the book,. I'd be interested to see it having now watched the film. (Plus reading the book after watching the film is usually safer!! :-D

yet seen the film, but I remember reading the book in second grade. Saw the trailer in November and it alarmed me, because I have no recollection of any sort of major fantasy critter from the book, but I remember parts of it verbatim. I thought I was losing my mind when I saw the ad. I'm actually glad to hear the trailer was misleading. :) I can't believe they modernized it (well, I guess I can) by talking about downloading. The book came out in 1978, I believe. Not much downloading was being done by laypeople back then. The original book was great on its own; it seems like the stuff they've added didn't contribute positively. Maybe I'll skip it. :)

Oh dear... shame your kids weren't impressed!
I do agree that the trailer is misleading - I was expecting very much a Chronicles of Narnia type film, but once I accepted that it wasn't going to be like that I really did enjoy it.
Misleading trailers seem to get everywhere though, don't they?!??! I mean, The Fifth Element actually looked good in the trailer, but... :-D

with this movie. The previews made it seem as though there would be a lot of mythical type creatures throughout the movie, but there were very limited scenes involving such. This was one movie I didn't mind having to leave every 10 minutes to take my 3 year old potty :) She lost interest fast, as did my other children...boo..

Ah, so this movie surprised both of us - even though you had read the book. I think that's a good thing, eh?!? :-D

I've read the book and seen the movie. Actually, this is the 2nd movie version of the book - the first was fairly awful - this one is a vast improvement. This current version keeps pretty close to the book's plot. I didn't expect the movie it to be as moving as it was. I was impressed by its translation onto the screen. Thanks for an interesting review!
