To put it quite simply, I just didn't like this activity mat & neither did my little one.
I looked at many different activity mats & tried to think through each one. Of course, being limited by the price, many of the better mats weren't an option. Looking back, I could have done much better for the money that I spent on this one.
I was first attracted by the bright colors of this mat - but as a new mom, I didn't realize that it was just too narrow. Babies are not immobile very long at all and this mat was much too confining for a baby that is learning to roll over. I would definitely recommend a mat with more room for movement. The dangling toys were fairly average, but I thought the mirror held promise(babies LOVE to see themselves!) The problem is that it is difficult to angle the mirror properly so that a baby lying on her back can see her reflection. *Sigh* Mommy was really striking out on this purchase!
We found, too, that the archways were not very durable. After only a short period of time, the foam inserts were just not up to the challenge of a baby's newfound tugging & pulling skills. They didn't tear, but soon looked sad and droopy. I was constantly trying to re-position them, but to no avail.
Trying to be optimistic, I was still hopeful about the playhouse function. Being an "efficiency fanatic", I loved the idea that it would serve a double purpose: first as a mat, and then later as a playhouse. For us, however, it didn't live up to that claim. Once my little one was crawling, I eagerly dug out the mat to convert it to the playhouse. Finally! We will get some use of this thing, I thought... but, it just didn't happen. I coaxed my baby to crawl though it a couple of times & she promptly tired of the concept. It was if she were saying, "This is boring, Mom...what else ya got?"
Oh well...at least there's still the garage sale!
