| kparsons13's Full Review: Brita Atlantis Pitcher |
For about the past three years every week my fiancé and I have been lugging three or four old milk gallons to the water disposal at my apartment building. It isnt a really long walk by any means, but I find it to be a pain. I was tired of making that walk every week. When I saw that Brita was having a sale at Target this week, I jumped at the chance to buy a pitcher. We spent a dollar every week for the past three years, if we had just saved a little money here and there, we could have saved the agony and displeasure of going to get water months ago.
So when I went to Target, I wasnt looking for anything huge, as our refrigerator only has so much room as it is. I found a liking to the Brita Atlantis model that gives you a sleek design. It is so sleek that it fits in the door panel should you choose to store it that way.
What do you get in the box???
Well in the box is the pitcher itself with its lid and two filters. I guess normally Brita gives you one filter but it had a bonus inside of two this time. One filter was wrapped in plastic and in the pitcher and the bonus filter was in a box inside. The filters for replacement purposes were 6.99 at Target for future use. Each filter is used for two months and then replaced. There is a dial of the calendar months that comes as a sticker to help remind you to change the filter as well should you choose to put that on your pitcher.
How is it Used?
The use of the Brita Atlantis Model is pretty simple. There is a lid that goes over the pitcher securely which also has another lid that pops open. You lift this open in order to pour the faucet water into the pitcher. The water will slowly drop down into the pitcher as it goes through the filtration system. The new filter had to be put into a cup of water for 15 minutes before use and you are supposed to wash your hands before doing any handling of the filter for obvious reasons. It is easy to insert the filter into its place in the pitcher design, nothing hard about that task. Once the water has been put through the filtration system there is a pour spout as well on the lid that when bent over for pouring use flips open. The water is ready after it has gone through the pitcher. It is that simple.
How does the water taste??
Well compared to bottled water, it tastes rather similar if not better than what we were getting. I cant make any complaints here on that end. The water is clear of course and tastes like my other bottled waters that I have bought. It isnt tainted by the hard water in my apartment at all. I dont know if you realize that in Arizona we have horrid water but we do. The Brita Atlantis Model takes that water and makes it into drinkable water that tastes great.
Overall Thoughts
I love water. I drink it all the time. I love the way it tastes and it helps me keep my weight in check. I also love iced tea next to water which you need good water to make it with. I had been spending so much on water a week that I could have bought over ten of these systems for my apartment by now. The Brita Atlantis system only costs $21.99 which I think is a bargain if you look at buying water on a weekly basis like we had been doing.
The Brita system is certified to reduce lead, chlorine and sediment. There is no taste or odor of any chemicals at all. When I say chemicals I mean lead, copper, mercury, and cadmium. The Brita system has been tested and certified by the NSF for health effects. It has also been proven that it has the reduction for chlorine, zinc and taste and odor. On top of all that Good Housekeeping Magazine also has a replacement of refund on a limited warranty of 90 days.
Each filter lasts for 40 gallons which is about 2 months on average. The filters are easy to use and place into the Brita Atlantis. To allow the water to go through the filter takes about 5-10 minutes, which realistically isnt that long. It isnt a hassle.
There is condensation from the cold water in the Brita Atlantis pitcher. However the handle is contoured nicely and doesnt slip when you are holding the pitcher to pour.

I love my Brita Atlantis Model that I chose to buy. It was economically sound for our lifestyle. I am very proud to be an owner of Brita and glad that I am saving money in the long run. I highly recommend that you purchase a Brita Filtration Water System. It will be a great addition to your refrigerator.
Until next time,
