| cspu's Full Review: Brita Fill & Go Water Filtration Bottle |
I drink a lot of water. I have a clear plastic bottle on my desk that I used to fill up a few times a day from the company water fountain. Not long ago I filled up my bottle and the water looked "milky", like when you wash a glass out after drinking milk! I decided right then that I needed to get some sort of filter.
I've been using a Brita pitcher at my house for nearly 5 years. It really helps the "taste" of my water, so when I started my search, I started with Brita! The reviews on this site have been good, so I bought myself one at Wal-Mart for $6.00.
The Fill & Go Filter System
The water bottle and filter come in a blue box with a picture of the "system" on the front. I opened the box and dumped out my bottle. The filter, instructions, and change indicator were all inside the bottle.
Assembly
Not much effort required here. You MUST follow the directions or you will be drinking some less than pleasant water! Wash the bottle, open the filter and slide it into the slot on the inside of the drinking hole. Fill the bottle and slowly squeeze the contents out (don't drink the first batch, you will see why) to "activate" the filter. Open the change indicator sticker, stick it on the side of the bottle and line up the dates. That's it, the bottle is ready to use!
Results
The Fill & Go holds about 32 ounces of water. The first thing you will notice is that the water doesn't flow as freely as it does from the water bottle that you got with your bike. It filters the water on the way out (rather than on the way in like the pitchers) so it takes a little more squeezing to get it to flow. Once I got it flowing, I noticed that the milky water I put in was crystal clear coming out! If nothing else, it was making my water look right.
What about taste? As if water has a taste! Well no flavor is good flavor when it comes to water. The water coming out of the filter tasted like water should, free of any foreign flavors.
The Cons
These are not big, but they are the only things I can find to speak of as "cons".
The design of the filter means that you will never drink all of the water in the bottle through it. The opening from the filter is about 2 inches above (when the bottle is turned up) the lid. Which means that there is going to be about 2 ounces of water left in the bottle that you can't drink through the filter.
The change indicator is a sticker that is designed to be removed. The problem is that it keeps trying to come off before I want it to.
Conclusion
If you don't have the luxery of bottled water at your place of employment then this is for you. You can remove foreign flavors and colors from plain old drinking fountains. It sits nicely on the desk and its easy to use. Big thumbs up for the Brita Fill & Go!
