Pros:compact, gives you great tasting water
Cons:pour spout flap, price of refills
The Bottom Line: This is a decent water filtration pitcher, but I would only recommend it if Pur isn't available where you shop!
I live in an area of Southern Idaho that has, by far, the worst water I have ever tasted. The ground water in the area is extremely high in mineral content (particularly iron), so whether you have a private well or city water your water will almost certainly taste bad.
I moved to this location on December 15, 1998. On December 16, 1998, I was in a store searching for a water filtration pitcher to make my tap water drinkable. I came across the Brita Spacesaver and it looked like exactly what I wanted. I made the purchase and have been very happy with it.
It is an easy product to use. You simply fill the basket with water and it drips through the filter and into the pitcher. Within moments you have great tasting water.
The pitcher has a very compact design, living up to to it's name. It will even fit in the door of most refrigerators. I keep mine on the top shelf in the back, as it is the coldest part of the refrigerator and I like COLD water.
Despite its compact size, the Brita Spacesaver pitcher will hold one half gallon of filtered water. This is a plus when you have small children who are always begging for juice and don't want to wait for the pitcher to filter more.
The Brita filters are very easy to replace. You simply remove the old filter and drop in the new one, lining up one notched edge. It takes only seconds to replace, but make sure your replacement filter has been soaked in water for 15 minutes first to ensure proper filtration.
There are some things I don't like about this product. The biggest problem I have with the Brita Spacesaver is that if you fill the pitcher up a little too much and there is water left in the basket after the pitcher is full, it spills when you are trying to pour a glass.
Another problem is that the little flap over the pour spout will freeze shut if your refrigerator is cold, which mine is. This is another source of spilled water. We solved this problem by simply removing the flap.
Finally, I think that the refills are a bit pricey. It costs over $8 for one filter! When you realize that you have to change your filter every two months or less, this really adds up.
This is a very good product, but like most it does have its flaws. I would recommend this to anyone who lives in an area with bad tasting water.
