Pros: - True Side Impact Protection
- Easy to install
- Extremely comfortable for baby
Cons: - Big seat in the rear facing position; won't work for some
The Bottom Line: I would definitely recommend the Boulevard to anyone purchasing a convertible carseat. It's safe, easy to use, comfortable for baby, and stylish to boot.
floppytommy's Full Review: Britax Boulevard Convertible Car Seat - Onyx
After an exhaustive search, I purchased two Britax Boulevard convertible seats in the onyx fabric to replace the two Graco Snugride (Metropolitan) car seats that I was using for my 9-month-old twins. My babies were never been comfortable in the Snugride seats so I was a little worried about my next car seat purchase.
I narrowed down my selections from online research, parent reviews, Consumer Reports, and other sources. Then I headed out the door to try both babies in displays at my favorite children's products store. I tried the Evenflo Triumph 5, Cosco Alpha Omega Elite, Britax Marathon, and Britax Roundabout. I have to say that both babies had instant "aahh! comfy!" moments in the Boulevard seats. So far, we were off to a good start with these seats. After I got the kiddos' approval, I did a drill on ease of installation in my vehicle, securing the straps, and getting the babies in and out of the seats. The Boulevard was the clear winner.
Since getting the seats home and installed in my own car. I have to say that I am even more happy with them than I was during my test run. My 2002 vehicle was manufactured just before LATCH was widespread, but the seat belt installation with the Boulevard is so secure and simple that I didn't miss anything by not being able to use LATCH. Since my kiddos are less that 33 pounds (the rear facing limit on the Boulevard is 5-33 pounds; forward facing is 33-65 pounds.), I have the seats installed rear facing. Rear facing works like a charm for me, although parents getting this seat for use in smaller cars may have a problem with the size of the Boulevard in the rear facing position.
In addition to ease of use, another plus of this seat is the actual position of the child in the seat. My son is one of the slumpiest, slouchiest infants I've ever seen, but he sits very comfortably in the Boulevard, and his head doesn't roll forward or side to side. His torso also doesn't slump. It's amazing. The "True Side Impact Protection" (TSIP) is wonderful and doesn't interfere with my babies' comfort and respective seating positions.
I can't imaging better car seats for my twins!
