zlmajors's Full Review: Britax Parkway 9041 Booster Car Seat - Onyx
Ok here's the deal, most toddler car seats have a weight limit of around 40 pounds, that is when you are required to change to a booster seat.
But what is a booster seat? A booster seat is required because the seat belt is not designed for a passenger that is below the standard heights of an adult. A booster seat literally "boosts" a child up so that the seatbelt will work properly.
But shouldn't a booster seat do more than just adjust their height?
When you were holding your child, every parent knows that you must support it's neck. Why does this rule stop applying just because they can walk and talk? The Britax Parkway and Monarch model of booster seats incorporate a very smart design that protects a child's head and neck from side impacts on a car. That is why I chose this carseat for my children.
SUMMARY
The Britax Parkway and Monarch booster seats are made by Britax Childcare, a British company that is considered the creme de la creme of the car seat world.
The Parkway and Monarch uses a rigid plastic frame with EPS foam lined around the body and the head and neck area. You can see from the picture above that this booster seat, unlike most, actually provides a good deal of head and neck protection in the likely event of a side impact. Think of it as a side impact air bag for your kid.
The parkway and monarch correctly positions the seatbelt across the pelic area and the chest/shoulder area of your child. There is a hood guide for the upper portion of the seatbelt and a curved area for the lower, right next to where the seat belt buckles in.
The seats come with padding in them that makes them very comfortable for your child to sit in, even on long journeys, plus the cover is EASILY removed and is machine washable. All you have to do us unstrap the elastic straps on the back.
One of the best things about the Parkway/Monarch is that they are designed to safely accomodate kids of various heights 38 inches to 60 inches tall approximately 30 to 100 lbs. The seat top is easy to extend, just pull up on the tab just behind the headrest and adjust. Easy as can be.
Installation and removal is very easy, just simply place the seat, slide the seatbelt into the seat belt hook, which there is one on both sides of the seat, and your done.
The seats do have two plastic cup holders that kind of extend out from the base of the seat, but other than MAYBE a juice box or small bag of snacks, no cup will stay in them, probably the weakest point of the seats. Sort of like some engineer said "geez lets see what else we can fit on the seat."
The seats aren't that much more expensive than the other booster seats, they have good durability, I've had mine for 2+ years and no wear or tear.
I highly recommend these seats.
***ADDITIONAL****
The only difference between the Parkway and Monarch is that the Monarch has these little arm rests,
