elvisdo's Full Review: British Columbia Flag 4 X 6"
When my baby boy was born last year, it was definitely a cause for celebration. As expected, he was showered with many gifts. My family back in Canada was very excited of the newest addition to the family. Leave it to my sister to make sure that little Visdo knows where his daddy was born. One of the items that was included in a parcel of presents was a 4x6 Flag of British Columbia. Now theres a sight I havent seen in a few years.
The flag of British Columbia is based on the shield of the provincial arms of British Columbia. It is 4x6 in size and mounted on a 10 plastic stick. The flag itself is made from polyester and is printed in quality, bright colours. It actually helps make the design pop out more than usual. Each flag is individually sewn around the edges rather than stapled to ensure that it at least holds together, or until my little boy decides to rip it apart at its seams.
Back on June 14, 1960, British Columbias Premier W.A.C Bennett introduced the flag and it was first flown on board the Queen of Sidney, one of BCs ferries. The top of the flag is a rendition of the Union Flag to indicate the provinces origins as a British colony. In the center of the Union Flag is King Edwards crown representing the Canadian Royal Family.
The bottom half has a picture of the setting sun. Behind the sun are four wavy white and three wavy blue lines. This represents the provinces location between the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains. The setting sun really symbolizes that British Columbia is the westernmost province in Canada. Sometimes, I think the people back east forget that British Columbia exists.
Usually, smaller flags of such nature are made with cheap material but this one seems to be a crop above the rest. It actually feels sturdy despite the fact that its held together with a plastic stick. Maybe Im biased towards a wooden stick but I actually dont mind the overall look of this flag. Its a good thing, too, since I decided to steal it for myself and display it at work. It has a nice little home in my pen jar. Maybe if I wave it long enough, I might actually get an extra day off in August to celebrate BC Day. One can only hope.
