northeastgal's Full Review: Brocato Holdon Styling Gel 32 oz Liter Size
I had purchased this product a few years ago from the recommendation of a hairstylist I trusted. The price was not cheap as you can imagine anything purchased in beauty salons will be more expensive. The 4 oz. bottle that has been totally redesigned lasted me a long time since I only used a few drops at a time.
When I finished the small bottle I did want to replace it but this product was not available in any beauty salon or beauty supply store. I looked everywhere and could not locate this. I did notice it online but did not want to purchase only one product. I decided to go back to the original salon I purchased this Brocato product and there it was but in a new design. I was not sure whether to purchase it or not but I liked the other so much I decided to go for it. The words on the old bottle were the same as on the new bottle, "holdon, Styling Gel, Brocato, america". I could not read the ingredients since the print is so small but had a feeling it could not be same product. How can I get 8.5 FL Oz for the price of 4 oz, I thought.
~ About Brocato ~ Brocato products are not sold in stores but can be found online. These Brocato products are not sold in all Beauty Salons either. There is only one Hair Salon shop by me that sells this product.
This product was created by a native Louisiana master stylist, Sam Brocato. He has been honored with various awards for Hair Fashion Stylist. He now lives in New York and continues to produce products to enhance our appearance by using specific products.
This bottles stands at 7" high with a snap cap. The product is a thick, white and has a nice fragrance. It is made in the USA exclusively for Brocato. The label is white and gray in a clear plastic bottle.
The claim on the back is "for hold, manageability, and smooth silky control". Apply to damp hair and sculpt or finger style as desired. On the back, it also has a level of results for hold, shire, volume, smooth and curl hair results. This depends on your hair type and how you use the product. I have used this on dry and damp hair. As I do with most of my other hair products, I play around with them and see how they work in different situations.
~ My evaluation ~ I like using this product more than other gels I have. While the price is high between $10 - $15, It will last a long time. Unlike Catwalk, I don't have to wash my hands immediately after using this. But I have received different recommendations by different hairstylists. Some work and some I will not purchase again. I like that the fragrant scent left on my hair which does not smell like alcohol like some other cheaper products.
After matching the ingredients on both bottles, I did notice a slight difference in both. Naturally, I believe this is more diluted, hence, you get more.
If I blow dry my hair after applying some holdon, my hair will look curly rather than flat and wavy. It is not heavy and does have a slight shine. This product was recommended to me for my wavy hair to give it some curl and bounce. I like the way my hair feels when this has dried. I can comb my hair without any problem the next morning. It will not be stiff that would require a washing. I can also just wet my hair and restyle if I feel like it.
