Pros: Keeps you on the edge of your seat, waiting for the next in the series...
Cons: You have to WAIT for the next book in the series...
The Bottom Line: V.C. Andrew's Orphan series is so good, you won't be able to put the book down - it's her best series by far.

| julie42's Full Review: V. C. Andrews and Laurel Lefkow - Brooke |
Brooke, by V.C. Andrews
This is the third book that will later be combined to a sequel, in V.C. Andrews “Orphan” series. What the author is doing, is writing four seperate, current novels, about different orphaned girls. Each girl will have her own dedicated book and story, which will leave her at a new orphanage in the end. After all four girls have told their story, there will be a combined sequel at the end, starting with the new orphanage “that used to be a resort.”
Brook has always assumed her mother would come back for her. She waited patiently, until one day a man that looked like a movie star, and his wife, who looked like a model, came and adopted Brooke. At first, Brooke thought she shouldn’t go, because one day her mother would come back for her, and wouldn’t know how to find her. Brooke tried to settle in at the her new parent’s home. She tried to like Pamela and Peter, but Pamela was only interested in raising a Beauty Pagent Queen. Pamela was stated to have almost been Miss Universe, and was the runner-up for Miss Delaware. I think this is a subtle joke (no offense to those from Delaware) since Delaware is so small, and she couldn’t even make it *there* it is probably unlikely that she could have ever been Miss Universe, competing against winners from much larger populations.
Anyway, Brooke excells at sports, and Pamela is disgusted. She forces piano and ettiquette lessons, and makes her wear make-up instead. Peter is of little help, because Pamela has him wrapped around her finger with her beauty. Behind Peter’s back, she always mentions how you can never let a man be too happy, or let him think that he’s “got you” because they he will take you for granted.
This book was hard to get through because I disliked Pamela so much. She was always crying or screaming or getting mad about something ridiculous. While I understand that tame, mild books don’t attract as many readers, I wish Brooke could have stood up for herself more often, and stopped things while they started.
I won’t spoil the ending for you all. I definitely recommend this series, it’s one of V.C. Andrews better series lately.
