Pros: It was inexpensive and it had the basic things I needed.
Cons: It had the most confusing directions separated from the illustrations!
The Bottom Line: Have a friend who knows how to sew be there when you get started because the instruction manual isn't worth the paper it was printed on.
akamomcani's Full Review: Brother LS-2125 Mechanical Sewing Machine
I am 40 something years old and wanting some new window treatments without spending an arm and a leg, so I purchased the inexpensive Brother LS-2125 at a "superstore" with the intention of teaching myself to sew. If I am given adequate instructions I can go off on my own in most instances. The problem was that this machine had terrible instructions. Instead of separating the directions by languages, French, Spanish, Portugese(?) and English were all side by side on the same pages, but the illustrations were usually not with the English instructions, but a page ahead 'conveniently' located with the other languages, so there was a constant flipping back and forth of pages to try to match up written instructions with the illustrations. It was especially frustrating trying to figure out how to thread the bobbin and the upper needle, and how to load the bobbin into the machine... "Place the spool of thread on the spool pin (What's a "spool pin"?? (flip, flip)) and pass the thread around the bobbin winding disc (what's a "winding disc"?? (flip, flip))... "Pull the trailing thread into the slot and down and to the left, as shown in fig B-2 until it enters the delivery eye under the tension spring" (what the he--??? (flip, flip, flip, flip, flip, flip)). You get the idea.
Also, when it came time to identify parts, instead of giving the names of the parts in the illustrations PART NUMBERS were given, so then you have to go back through the instruction manual and look for matching numbers to see what the parts were. Why couldn't they have just written the part name under the picture??
After spending nearly 3 hours trying to get my threads loaded, I am now ready to try my hand at this sewing process. I just wish that Brother would have made getting started easier.
