sneddren's Full Review: Brother MFC-8660DN All-In-One Laser Printer
I recently started a small business and needed a good quality printer, as the core of my business is the production of text documents. I knew that I wanted a laser printer and started to shop around for HP products (almost all of my other equipment is HP). I found a refurbished Brother 8660 at Staples for a lot less than the comparable HPs and based on reviews of the Brother, I bought it.
It's now almost a year later and I am absolutely thrilled with this printer. It prints FAST and clear, it prints in duplex, the scanning and faxing functions are easy to use and trouble free and the entire unit has a small footprint.
Prior to starting my own business I worked at a large company that had the industrial strength copier/printer/scanner units and for printing speed this little Brother is fast enough that I can't really tell a difference (this is based on documents running up to 200 pages). The duplex printing is not nearly as fast as the big units, but it's not slow either.
Print quality is as good as any top tier printer and toner life is very good. The toner did indicate that it was empty a while ago, but if you cover up the little glass window on the side it will print for a lot longer. I'm just about ready to start on a new toner unit (roughly $60) and I'd guess that I got about 5000 pages from the first one.
The only con I've experienced is the noise level, which is a bit on the high side and the envelope printing, which is never very good with printers (in my experience). In this case, the envelopes always come out a bit wrinkled.
