| aspniz's Full Review: Brother's Restaurant |
Brother's is as close to 'the real thing,' as I've ever tasted and experienced to Korean food and 'the Seoul dining experience.' If you are 'a foodie,' then you will find very little on the menu that is not fresh, not barbecued perfectly, or inappropriately spiced. If you are disturbed by poor lighting and a factory decor, despite delicious food, then go to one of the other *quasi*-Korean restaurants which are plentiful, particulary in the Bay Area. I have eaten almost every dish at Brother's and each dish tastes the same as the last time I ordered it. This is a tribute to the consist high-quality of a restaurant and will avoid that 'one bad experience,' which keeps you away forever. The spicy soups include such fresh spices that, after eating at 'the other Korean joints,' you savor the 'fresh taste.' The meats, which are barbecued at your table, are perfect. My favorite Brother's experience, however, is samply the wide assortment of side dishes (some are very hot, so be careful to have lots of rice and water with you!). The seoul (get it?) item which isn't up to par with the rest of the food at Brother's is the seafood. Although the spices might mask the freshness, the seafood dishes, while still the best of the Korean restaurants, is excellent, is not as tender and flavorful as I would like. Don't forget to taste the kimchee...just a little for you beginners...on it's own. It's like it was just picked and sliced. Tears will run from your eyes as the kimchee gets closer to your taste buds! Expect a wait, be surprised if you walk right in, and I guarantee you'll be smiling and full when you walk out of Brother's!
