A Barbie Letdown

Pros:I purchased the doll on clearance.
Cons:Doesn't work. Very disappointing.
The Bottom Line: I cannot, in good faith, recommend this doll to anyone. It just does not live up to the Barbie name.

I purchased this doll on clearance at a local toy store. I figured $4.99 was a good buy since my 7 year old is in love with Barbie. The doll looked like fun, and the weather was perfect for my daughter to play with it outside. What kid doesn't like to make bubbles?

When I gave the doll to my daughter she was very excited. She had seen the commercials, and couldn't wait to see the doll twirl around and make loads of bubbles. After all, that's what happens in the commercial.

As I read the directions, my daughter examined the doll. It was dressed in a very pretty fairy costume, with the hair done immaculately. Since this doll was made for the express purpose of blowing bubbles, its construction is different from regular Barbies. Thus, making it not very fun to play with, unless you are blowing bubbles.

I set the doll up according to the instructions, and followed my daughter outside. She bounced in anticipation as she set the doll off. According to the directions, the doll should spin, and when the bubble wand is dipped in bubbles, the spinning will create a cloud of bubbles. So we set the doll spinnin' and waited, and watched, and NOTHING. No bubbles, and rather than spinning, Barbie painfully twisted.

We tried several times. I felt extremely lucky that we achieved maybe 10 bubbles total. I even tried dish detergent to see if it would make better bubbles. NOTHING.

Luckily the ice cream truck came by, and eased my daughters pain. She soon forgot about the doll. Not long after, it ended up in a box of toys marked 10 cents each at our garage sale. I think I boy bought it, intending to blow it up with his G.I. Joe.

Needless to say, my daughter learned a valuable lesson on advertising. She is now somewhat wary when a company claims a toy can do fun, miraculous things.
