Pros:Friendly staff, great food, great value
Cons:Make reservations or call in advance or you will be waiting a long time to eat
It was near the beginning of the year 2000 when a Buca Di Beppo opened up around me. My family went there and insisted that my girlfriend and I give it a try. One day we went with my parents. When we got there we were totally amazed by the surroundings. Just about every inch of this restaurant was covered with pictures of people called “Miss Buca”, scenes of Italy, to pictures of the pope. Besides the pictures there are boxing nuns and other kinds of collectibles on the wall.
We got seated pretty quickly since we called in advanced. If we didn’t we would have been waiting for several hours: it draws that many people. We got seated on the second floor near the “pope” room. (The “pope is a room with a bust of the Pope on the center of a Lazy Susan. That room is dedicated with pictures of the Vatican.) The first thing we noticed was that we weren’t given menus. We were told to look at the large one on the wall. To our surprise we had to share a meal. You are probably thinking that why should we do that. The answer is that the portions are so big that they serve up to four people. For example: a small spaghetti bolognese can fee three people with some left over. We eventually ordered a small salad (feeds about five) and the Spaghetti Bolognese. My parents had the Chicken Pacanti (feeds six). It took a while to eat every thing but when we were done there was enough left over for at least a week of dinner. The bill was only about $60 dollars (that includes the dessert that I didn’t mention) if you think about it that is slightly more than what you would pay at another restaurant with out having a lot of left over food to take home. The price is really worth going.
Besides the good food and atmosphere I have to give a lot of credit to the Staff. There was not one waiter/waitress who seemed as if they wanted to be else where. They were 100% profession and courteous. They went above the call of duty to serve the other customers and us. What was truly special about them is that they were this way being extremely understaffed that night. Not one sing of anguish from them. They were outstanding.
One other thing that makes the staff great: I had my 30th birthday here and they catered to me and 27 friends. The manager gave us a lot of appetizers on the house, and the staff was again sort handed but they were professional and great to be around. When a Buca Di Beppo opens up near you must go check it out. It is truly a dining experience.
