Light beers, in general, are usually no more than watered down versions of the regular brand of beer and they are usually less flavorful. Bud Light is no exception to this rule. This beer was first introduced in 1982 as "Budweiser Light". A couple years later, the marketing people realized that it was much easier to say "Bud Light". This shortened name was catchier, too. So, the name was officially changed to Bud Light in 1984.
Bud Light has a very light straw color, with a smooth, somewhat sweet taste. The aroma is grainy and not very enticing, although not nearly as pungent as regular Budweiser. There is almost no aftertaste at all with this beer. A 12 oz. serving contains 110 calories and the alcohol level is 3.9 percent by volume, which is lower than most other beers, including many light beers.
I dont normally endorse light beers. But with Bud Light, I am going to break my strict rules and recommend it over the higher- octane parent beer, Budweiser. The reason? Well, regular Budweiser is not very good in the first place. The smell of Budweiser, alone, could easily spoil your appetite. Bud Light has similar qualities, but in smaller amounts. So, in my opinion, less of a bad thing is better.
Bud Light is also a very versatile product. It can be paired with almost any food or occasion because of its light- bodied character. It's a very well- known, acceptable beer product and it makes a good choice for a keg when you're uncertain which beer to purchase for a party. Its lightness, low calories, familiarity, and smooth drinkability make it the type of beer that virtually anyone will accept. Your party guests will not be thrilled, but they will be content if you choose Bud Light.
Bud Light is far from being a world- class product. There is nothing exceptional about the taste or anything else. However, it isn't as offensive as regular Budweiser. It's also very versatile and acceptable. So, it has enough good qualities (just barely!) for me to give it a marginal thumbs up.
