| Saxguy's Full Review: Budweiser Select |
I saw the heavy advertising and I saw this on sale at the local Jewel (Albertsons). So, I figured that Budweiser is drinkable when Im really thirsy and I thought Id give this a try.
Sure, I love the craft brews, but, every once in a while, those are not available. Finding a decent enough moderately priced beer is fun, because there are so few of them. Prices are rising and taste is declining among the mass brewers.
When I was in high school and college, there were a few good low-priced beer options. Blatz was pretty good-tasting when it was brewed by Heileman. I remember telling my brother Blatzll get you blitzed before my weekly runs to the (Wisconsin) border, long before any Taco Bell advertising campaigns. I also liked Strohs and Heilemans Special Export when each was brewed by its original brewery. Now, I just dont know. I figured this would be worth a try.
The label says distinct and flavorful, with a bold taste that finishes clean. I found on the net that this has 99 calories and 3.1grams carbs and 4.3% ABV. This is basically a light beer.
The Nose Very faint hops, not much else. Nothing bold here.
The Pour Lots of bubbles form a ready head. The color is a pale yellow, but not unpleasantly so. The head faded to about half fairly quickly, but the rest remained.
The Taste Noticeable carbonation, mild grainy taste, nothing else.
The aftertaste Yes, it finishes clean, because there is nothing on the finish.
Right about now, Im reminded of those recent commercials where people said I cant taste my beer. Thats basically it. This doesnt have much taste. It has a mild grainy taste associated with mass market light beers, but thats it. I did get a very mild buzz.
Its certainly not unpleasant. I would drink it again if I were thirsty and there were no other alternative. In its favor, it has a light body and suited for having a few.
But Im not going to buy it again.
As for good beers at decent prices, go to a Russian market and buy a 16oz bottle of Baltika #6 for $1.29.
Thanks for reading. God bless!
