Pros: Great transforming features, good Boreanz likeness...
Cons: Harder to find than the other characters, few accessories, no long jacket...
The Bottom Line: I can't get that "Send Me an Angel" song out of my head. And THAT hurts.

| JediKermit's Full Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer PALz Angel |
I really didn't like the character of Angel much on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The on-again off-again thing with Buffy was irritating, and he was basically bland and lurky, and only interesting when he turned evil. Which meant any time he could be interacting with other characters I liked, he was as likely to eat them as hang out with them. Hence, my disliking of him. But, he's an essential part of the first three seasons of "Buffy," before he wised up and moved down to L.A. for his own series, where he became a character I liked. Go figure.
Since he was integral to the first season of "Buffy," it would make sense that he'd be a regular part of that line of Palisades Toys' PALz, right? Nope. If you scan the shelves at Media Play or Suncoast looking for Angel, you'll be looking for a long time...because Angel isn't there. For some reason, they decided to make Angel an "exclusive figure," meaning he'd only be sold through certain outlets. The good news is that he's really not THAT exclusive, and you can find him easily online from many different stores--there are three links through Epinions that sell him, I got mine at Timeandspacetoys.com.
And you do need him.
The Angel PALz has all of the same great things about it that the other PALz do...two inches tall, dang cute, good likeness, and an amazing amount of articulation for a block figure. One of the best features about the Angel PALz is the transforming feature--because he's sometimes human looking and sometimes vampire looking, it makes sense that this would be his transformation...and it works great for him.
On one side of his head is his normal bland looking nice face...and on the other, the yellow-eyed, heavy browed vampire face...just remove his hairpiece, rotate the head, and you've got Angelus ready to kill 'em all. Instead of coming with the extra pieces to transform him into one extra look, like most PALz, he comes with pieces for aty least four different looks: white shirt with black jacket, white shirt alone, white shirt with red "cross burn" on his chest, and shirtless (complete with a tiny little tatoo on his shoulder blade!). All four of these are good looks, and even though I usually have him wearing his black jacket, he has been known to go shirtless from time to time. You can also do mix-and-match, shirtless Angel wearing his jacket, etc...but the options above are the best four ways to display or play with him.
Because he comes with so many torso and arm pieces to complete the transformation, it makes sense that he wouldn't have many other accessories...he comes with the Inkworks trading card and the headstone that all of the other "Buffy" figures come with...and that's it. I would have liked to see the Sword of Angelus included, or the long black trenchcoat he's known for wearing...but he's fine the way he is.
This is a great figure, and worth tracking down online or at a specialty store to get...I found mine for the same price as the other PALz, but I know some stores do mark "exclusives" up. Hunt him down, get him, love him. Goodness knows Buffy did.
