Cons: None. But I want more vampires.

| JediKermit's Full Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer PALz Darla |
I didn't like Darla in the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I thought she was a one-note, somewhat ditzy vampire chick, who didn't gain any real depth until the series "Angel" when she came back to haunt that vampire-with-a-soul. Once I saw more of her, there, I loved her.
Because she's such a big part of the "Buffyverse," even though she didn't have a huge role in the first season, she earned a spot in the first series of Buffy PALz from Palisades Toys. PALz are "block figures" -- two inches tall and stylized, with lots of articulation and lots of acessories that put them a notch ahead of other block figures. Right now there are "Buffy" and "X-Files" PALz in stores--they'll be followed by "Die Hard" and other figures this year.
The first series of Buffy figures is meant to correspond to the first season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and then successive series will go with successive seasons. Makes a lot of sense, and since I've already seen the lineup for series two and three, I'm really excited about this line of toys. Obviously.
The Darla PALz is one of my favorites, and makes full use of the cuteness and "transforming feature" that each PALz has. Each PALz can transform their appearance, so it's almost like getting two figures for the price of one. That's especially effective for Darla and the other vampires, because they look normal when not feeding, but get a bumpy forehead and yellow eyes when they're about to feed. So Darla has a "normal" face on one side of her head, and a vampire face on the back; to transform her into a vampire, you simply remove her hair, rotate the head, and snap the hair back on. Nice touch, and it works really well for Darla.
She's dressed in a sort of "Catholic schoolgirl" outfit--plaid skirt and white button-down blouse; you can also add a dark blue sweater to the look with the interchangeable arms and torso piece that snap into place.
She's comes with some very cool accessories--she's one of the few PALz to have a gun so far, and in fact comes with two handguns. She comes with the same candelabra The Master comes with, a book, and a tombstone. The tombstone is the most elaborate of any so far; each PALz in this first series has come with a tombstone, to set up a cemetery environment. This particular one has a PALz-shaped angel on it, wings spread wide, and ready to witness some major Slayer butt-kickage. Darla also comes with an exclusive Inkworks trading card.
This is a great first series for any "Buffy" toy line, and Darla's one of the outstanding figures in that series. If you're a fan of the Slayer, you owe it to yourself to discover it. You can find Buffy and X-Files PALz at Media Play, Suncoast, Sam Goody, and many other specialty stores--there are also several online stores selling them, so get on series one while the getting's good.
