I thought one of the weaker parts of Season Two of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was having Spike's girlfriend Drusilla be a dizzy, fainting, crazy, tongue-lolling-out-of-her-mouth lunatic for most of the season. By the time she's "cured" and we see her truly dangerous side, I just couldn't take her seriously anymore. It wasn't until later appearances of non-crazy Dru that I really liked her. And even then, when she's not crazy...she's still a nut.

But she's an essential player in the second season, so it's fitting that she's a bit part of the second series of the Buffy PALz figures from Palisades Toys. PALz are highly articulated, stylized block figures, similar to Kubricks, MiniMates, and the ever-popular LEGO minifigures. PALz were first launched last year with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and X-Files lines, and they're adding Die Hard and hopefully some other properties soon.

Although Drusilla is an un-favorite character of mine, she does make a good toy. She's got that pallid face most vampires have, made even more sallow by her illness. She's got dark circles under her eyes, and her hairpiece has one sprig of hair that's always down in her eye. The likeness is good, but not perfect.

She comes with a long white dress, and her transforming feature includes her Vampire Face and a long black dress...not nearly as interesting as most of the other characters, but she just doesn't have much variety in her nut-job wardrobe.

Her accessories include three of her "babies"...blindfolded dolls that are made in the same PALz style, blocky and cute and tiny--love that, since they were such a key part of her madness. They include one white, one pink, and one blue doll, and they add a lot to the character. Again, nut.

The only other accessory is another leg of the Judge, a seventh character in the series that you build piece by piece by collecting all six "regular" characters. It comes in a little decorative chest like the other pieces, and the Judge is well worth it when fully assembled.

You can find the Buffy and X-Files PALz at Media Play, Suncoast, Sam Goody, and most smaller comic book shops or specialty stores. You can also find them online, usually for a significant discount if you preorder or buy the entire set at once. Which you'll want to do, because these little toys are as addictive as crack. But not nearly as expensive.
