| uglybugg's Full Review: Bull Frog Marathon Mist SPF #36 6 oz |
It seems like every time we go on a beach vacation me, my husband, or both of us end up miserable for a day or two due to sunburn. So when we took our most recent beach vacation I was determined to prevent this from happening. We were spending 3 days in Florida and 4 on a cruise to the Bahamas to there were lots of opportunities to succumb to the sun and its powers but thanks to the Bullfrog Marathon Mist with SPF 36 we enjoyed every day sunburn free.
About Bullfrog
Bullfrog Marathon Mist comes in an aluminum can and contains 6 ounces of product. It has SPF 36 protection against both UVA and UVB rays, is waterproof and sweat proof for 8 hours, and is not greasy. The bottle has a small cap that pops off to reveal a large button which is pressed to dispense the product. It sprays out of the can in the form of a fine mist that can be aimed directly at bare skin. The product is clear and dries instantly, however if the can is held too close to the skin or lingers too long in one area it will leave wet residue that will need to be rubbed in.
My experience
You may have seen the TV commercials for Bullfrog Marathon Mist. They show surfers, swimmers and folks just generally frolicking on the beach and other sunny places then at the end the little bullfrog face comes to live and yells bullfrog! out of the screen.
I admit that the cute bullfrog face is the main reason I sought out this particular brand of sunscreen. There are plenty of sunscreens available at my local drugstore but Im a sucker for a spokescritter so I literally went to a few different stores to find my green friend.
Despite my odd product selection justifications, Bullfrog did work really well. I was religious about applying sunscreen while still in my hotel room or cruise ship cabin as they say one is actually supposed to apply it 20 minutes before being exposed to the sun. As a result neither of us burned. There was one day when I was in and out of the water numerous times without reapplication and the tops of my shoulders got a little pink because my wet hair had rubbed the sunscreen off. But other than that I tanned slightly but did not burn at all and was able to enjoy my pain-free vacation. I got my hair braided in the Bahamas so my scalp was exposed but I just sprayed Bullfrog on it and my scalp never burned either.
Bullfrog is not greasy like lotion sunscreens but it does leave a fine mist lingering in the air for a few minutes so it is best to apply it in a large area or wait until you are outside to do so. Our hotel room was large and well-ventilated but when I applied it inside of our cruise ship cabin I pretty much gassed us out of that small space and had to open the cabin door to air the place out. Bullfrog is not unscented but has a scent that is difficult to describe. It is neither floral nor masculine, more of a clean laundry sort of scent that is unisex.
I liked being able to hold the big button down and have the continuous mist cover all exposed areas quickly and completely. I love that it is super easy to apply the product even to difficult areas like my back and the backs of my legs and I didnt have to ask for help.
At first I felt that the $8.50 price tag was a bit pricey for only 6 ounces of product, especially since one bottle only coats my body twice. But the convenience of being able to quickly protect my whole body in less than 2 minutes without help is a convenience Im willing to pay for. One day on the beach a gal in front of me made a huge production of applying her lotion sunscreen. Im not kidding, it took her at least 20 minutes, and she was blocking the view of the ocean that whole time. I wanted to give her my bottle of Bullfrog to speed up the process and get her out of my way but I was too selfish to share.
Bottom Line
Bullfrog kept both my husband and I sunburn-free for our weeklong beach vacation. It is very convenient as it is quick and easy to apply, is very water resistant, and long-lasting. I ended up buying a second bottle of it as I was only able to coat myself twice with one bottle but I was very pleased with the results and really only needed to apply it once in the morning and maybe a quick touch up in the afternoon. I would absolutely buy it again.
