ned1's Full Review: Bumble & Bumble Gentle Shampoo
To say I have had issues over the past 5 or 6 months with my hair would be putting it mildly. It seems that any time I have major stress in my life my hair begins to fall out in clumps. I had hoped for the best last August when I lost my job of 16+ years, was in the middle of a divorce, had major surgery and started a new job. Unfortunately the best did not happen and I began to drop hair like a white Persian on a black sofa.
For the most part I tried to fix it with drugstore and cheaper salon brand shampoos and the time tested method of wearing it up. I deluded myself into believing it looked OK, even though I could feel it was cruddy and my kids would comment, Wow, does your hair always start falling out when you turn 40?
In early January I finally bit the bullet, sucked it up and went back to buying Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo - as a single mom of 4, on a budget buying shampoo that runs around 2 dollars an ounce was not my first thought, but my last resort I needed to do something to fix my hair.
Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo comes in a variety of sizes and cost I believe you can get 2 oz, 8 oz and 1 liter sizes. For me the one other downside of this product, which may be the area I live in, Maryland suburbs outside of Washington DC, is trying to find a salon that sells the product I believe there are 3, one is luckily close to my office and two are a good car ride away. You can order it online, but the prices seem higher and you have to pay shipping.
Why I went back to Bumble and Bumble Gentle Shampoo. Several years ago I was having issues with my oldest child and my very long hair started falling out. The problem I had was my hair didnt fit any category of product dry, damaged, brittle, etc it just started falling out from stress. Not knowing what to try I solicited suggestions from friends. Epinions member pippadaisy suggested this shampoo, along with my college friend from Syracuse, seems these products are popular in upstate NY. Even back then the cost shocked me, but the results were amazing and as promised
According to the website ttp://www.bumbleandbumble.com/, heres what is promised the shampoo is ultra-rich and ultra mild for dry, damaged, fragile and chemically treated hair (I suppose I fit into the fragile category I also color my hair and have found it does not fade the color, which is an added bonus). To use simply wet hair, lather in palms, massage through hair, and rinse no need to repeat. The list of ingredients can also be found on the website.
This shampoo does take some practice too much can leave your hair feeling a bit heavy although it looks good and styles nicely. I did have to adjust because my hair is now about 12 shorter than when I first used it, so I was putting too much in. It rinses easily and I follow it up with Bumble and Bumble Super Rich Conditioner. I love the smell of both products and find myself not wanting to use lots of styling products after I dry it, because I enjoy the scent.
Since starting to use it last month, I have noticed a vast improvement in my hair it looks healthy and shiny, has a nice bounce to it when I dry it, is easy to style and has stopped falling out. Its not just me, folks at work thought I had got my hair colored, nope that was over a month ago and the change in shampoo just revived the color. My kids notice it looks better and isnt falling out, and I no longer need to vacuum where I have been sitting.
Yes, the price is steep for the shampoo and conditioner, and it can be hard to find, but I think it is well worth the price. I have nothing bad to say about the product, I just wish I had made the decision to go back to using it sooner.
